Isn't it terrific news that they are so close to reaching those trapped miners in Beaconsfield?

Looks like they will be out in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Australia's been holding it's collective breath since Anzac Day about this one!

It must be incredibly frustrating for all involved - the two trapped miners, their colleagues and rescue staff trying to get them out, their families and friends. They keep getting close, only to be frustrated by the geology, the way the rocks have fallen, the location, and the situation itself (the latest is that the rock they have to drill/blast very carefully through is harder than concrete). They've stopped saying "maybe another 48 hours" now. Tomorrow the miners will have been trapped for two weeks in a 1.2m by 1.2m cage, 1km underground. I can hardly bear to think too much about it.

It's been clear throughout the coverage of the rescue operation that these two miners have a great sense of humour and a lot of spirit. Good on them.

Larry Knight's funeral is this afternoon and my thoughts are with his family and friends.

And not to forget journalist Richard Carleton from 60 Minutes, who died of a heart attack on Sunday, just moments after posing one of his hard hitting questions on mining safety.

This has been a very complex and bittersweet few weeks.

I know its so sad about Richard....He was so good at what he done.

Isint it amazing how the familys of the dead man are still joyous for the two who survived... - such is the power of the human spirit - isint that amazing?
