Hello Everyone, I have used a pendulum with great success when doing healing work with others, but find nothing but contradictions when I try to use it for myself. I just don't seem to get any sense from it!
Is this usual? Should it not be used for personal use?

Hello Patience. First of all congratulations on getting healing results from your pendulum, that's great! I have an article on dowsing here: Learning to Pendulum Dowse It may be worth a quick read to check you are following all the tips. I find my pendulums invaluable...currently as I think my way around the house there is one by me at my desk, one in my healing room, two in the kitchen & one around my neck! Sometimes I can't lay my hands on a single one of them...I'm sure they hide when it is a bad day to dowse! Personal questions are the trickiest to get clear answers for- it isn't the pendulum doing the answering it is your intuition- the pendulum is the tool. When we have a personal investment in the answer we want we can influence the pendulum & get unreliable results. One way to reduce this is to put possible answers on identical squares of paper. Mix them up well face down & dowse over them.

I have accused my pendulum of lying to me! My friend swears I am not properly grounded, and that is the problem. The book I read stated the pendulum should be used for helping others, not for personal gain. But do not listen to me. Lauren I will try your suggestion with the scraps of paper.

I think when people warn against personal gain they are saying don't go dowsing for lottery numbers- that's hardly a 'higher purpose'. I don't think there is much wrong with dowsing for personal guidance.
Your friend is probably spot on when she mentions your grounding. Pop your black tourmaline between your feet

Many thanks Lauren, I read your article and got some new ideas from it, with regard to grounding and preparation.
I have several crystals that I used in healing. I see that you mention using a black tourmaline between your feet for grounding. is there any other that might also work this way? I have clear crystals, amethysts, milky quartz and smoky quartz. Also a polished rose quartz. Would any of these be of use?
Thanks for your help.

Call me crazy...but being from the granite state here in the US...aka New Hampshire...I feel best at home meditating upon a large out cropping of granite - which incidentally contains ALOT of quartz. also you might want to use hematite or onyx which are both stones used for grounding.

"Pendulum"--you mean something along the lines of a crystal on a chain?

Shall I tell you something....? I have found that even a key-ring (complete with keys, key fobs and a scoobydoo!) on a piece of string, works.... As Laurn says, being grounded is very important... But once you have your connection, the energy has a good clear flow, and everything is channelled effectively.
Incidentally, I have three crystal, one brass and one haematite pendulums, all used for different purposes... But all effective...yet some "pendulums swing like a pendulum do"... Others are more understated in their responses... now THAT has always puzzled me... I can be in the same spot, asking the same question, and though I'll get the same answer, the response from one will be wild, the other far more 'quiet'... and it varies as to which is first.... Bizarre....?

You could try the smoky quartz you have. I also use obsidian. I have some huge chunks for my healing room...I want to know I'm going to get my client back to this reality again at the end of the treatment! Yes Lynne pendulums are those crystals on the end of a chain, but as Alexandra says anything you can dangle (behave!) can be a makeshift pendulum. Incidentally Alexandra I've noticed this difference between the way pendulums act too- maybe the material they are made of, the weight of them or the length of the chain...or something more spooky...I certainly get wild swings for 'yes, yes, yes,' & more reserved swings for 'oh okay if you must'!

Many years ago, friends introduced me to the pendulum "baby" party trick. The method they used was to put a ring on the end of the chain and "dunk" it three times by the questioner into a "well" made by the person being questioned circling thumb and forefinger and closing in the bottom fingers of that hand. The pendulum was then brought to hang over the back of the hand of the person being questioned. If I recall correctly, the ring swung back and forth for one sex and in circles for the other sex of children one already had or might yet have. I wasn't convinced of its accuracy, after all, anyone could make it show I had 2 daughters, but I WAS convinced after I was the one holding the pendulum and it indicated that my friend had one extra daughter that was not part of the family as I knew it. I discovered then that she had miscarried a girl years before we knew each other. Very spooky. Does anyone know which way the pendulum was to swing for which sex? Anyone have positive experiences with this same use of the pendulum? Trishh
