hi all,I was wondering, what other ways do you keep fit other than your dancing?

I know some people just dance, which is awesome, though i feel the need to do a little more to give me more strength and flexibility.

I am doing yogalates and callanetics

We do a lot of yoga and stretching in class. When I have time, and I'm trying to make it a regular practice, I use Rachel Brice's "Yoga Drills and Isolations" DVD. You have to be careful with it, though, as it seems she assumed that everyone has yoga experience or good flexibility and forgot to add the safety cautions. Use common sense and take it slow.

It's a great idea to add additional stretching exercises to your dance practice and any other workout such as free weights if you really wanna look great in your costume, especially ab workouts!

I'm working toward getting back to a daily exercise practice, but with a full time job, a part time job and 2-3 classes per week, it's hard. Right now I'm lucky to work out 1 day per week

I do put on my performance DVD's and middle eastern music and dance around while I'm housecleaning. The BDSS, other dancers, my instructors and my sister troupe members inspire me!

hi there,oh I know life sure does get busy.
what dvd's do you like the best?aw dancing whilst you clean, sure is fun!

at the moment I am fortunate enough to be able to workout once or twice a day,but I realy need to,I have last bit of belly to rid after losing a huge lot of weight.I am realy starting to get strong nowadays.

I do diffrerent video each day, well I have a few and I rotate them.the callanetics I do once a week and yogalates,I just started that and that instructs to be done three times a week,I did one session and found it absalutely amazing!!

The BDSS are pretty amazing, they always inspire me to get up and dance.I dont have a dance troup here, theres officially no teacher,so I get a bit of a solitaire feeling sometimes.I just concentrate of fitness and dance and that seems to keep me in a cheery disposition!! and I know that in october I will have great oppurtunities to dance with others.woooohooooo!!!!

I am going to the Jewel of yorkshire in october and realy want to look, feel, and dance amazing for myself.

hugs

Hi Mizz Indy,

There's another thread where we're listing our favorite DVD's. My favorite to watch is the BDSS Live at the Folies Bergere.

I just got Kathy Smith's Bellydance Workout and while I have some criticisms, it's a great workout that uses bellydance. My favorite bellydance practice DVD is Magical Motion by Atea and Friends.

Working our daily is great. Bellydancing is a great workout in itself, but doing a little extra can help with your flexibility and strengthen your body for dance. And of course, you'll look great in your costume - so you are on the right track!

Maybe you'll find a class someday or maybe you should think about becoming a teacher.

I just discovered Jillina's DVD's and they are awesome!

Rachel Brice says that it only takes 1-3 years to really "get" bellydance, so keep at it and it won't be long. Of course, we should always want to continue our practice and education.

We are so blessed to have all of these incredible dancers available to us to share their skills. What a gift they have given us by sharing their love of the dance!

Thanks for the compliment! There was video taken of our performance Saturday night and I'll let you know when it's posted on the band's site!

hi there!!how lovely to hear from you ((hugs)).
well I learnt to sing some years ago and to sculpt and many other things and of course it took good old time and patience
I have time and patience for anything that I love with passion.
I cant wait to see your video!!I bet you are exited,we are soon to make a music video,I am so exited!!
I agree with you, theres always more and more depth to our learning,in fact i find the more i learn the more i realised i dont know!!I love to learn
I practised with veena and neena today, and i too was feeling so very grateful that theirs and other teachings are so available, thank goodness!!!I am gaining alott of control,I breath out any frustration,I remember when i was learning to sing, how exited i was,and this is quite simular!!
you can hear my singing here : www.indogo.karoo.net/music.htm
you can pop by and listen to my music whenever you feel

Hello!

I'm totally new to BellaOnline, looking forward to some great discussions of bellydance and sharing experiences, etc.

I desperately need to get out there and do some running. I'm a runner not a jogger. Will need to pop some more Tarkan (just got "Come Closer" in the mail today woo hoo!) on my iPod then off I go! I have some flab to get rid of and I'd better do it soon and modify my diet so I'm not stuck with it forever...
