This gorgeous colt took a ribbon in his class, and what magnificent tack he has too! <img src="/images/graemlins/king.gif" alt="" />

This pretty gray was being shown in the conformation competition. Note the bulge between the eyes, called the jibbah. This shield-shaped prominence is only seen in Arabians.

Focusing just on the horse in this photo, I wanted to show the mitbah or special angle at which an Arabian head is held, forming that stunning arched neck for which they are famous. Also note how the tail sits high on the croup, another genetic trait of the breed. Yes, it is true what you have heard - Arabians have one fewer rib and less vertebrae than other horses.

This colt didn't want to hold still for his grooming spray. Instead he wanted to come see me. I had to be good and not give him any treats as he was just about to enter the conformation ring. This is a good example of the smallness of the Arabian head.
