SUVs are the worst vehicles to ever be on the road. You can't see around them, you can't see through them. They block vision in all directions. They are gas-guzzling hazards. Those big black ones look like hearses.

I have a 4 door, hard top, Chevy Tracker. It's not a gas-guzzler. I get 26-28 highway; 25-27 in town. that's about the same as many sedans. And you can see around them if you stay the proper driving distance behind them. Its those that like to crowd other vehicles that have problems.

yes I agree not to mention what they do to the enviroment...but some people are sefish and dont really consider that in their decision making when purchasing a car.

Blanket statements are so misleading.

Current vehicles contain emissions controls--at least in the U.S. Repeated studies have shown that the impact of emissions from vehicles are on a par or slighly less than the impact of emissions from cows/goats/sheep (not to mention the damage these animals do simply by having to range to graze).

So if you want to say this is a selfish thing, than anyone who purchases a vehicle that runs on anything other than people power is going to have an impact on the environment somewhere and all car owners are selfish.

You could always ride a horse... but they still need hay and feed (which strains agricultural resources) and still burp/fart (which impacts the ozone).

I thought I was on your "ignore" list

You talk about damage animals do?? GMAB.
Humans have done more to damage this planet than any animal could ever do

Statements made without proper consideration of current scientific evidence (all sides) never cease to amaze me.

Since I 'had' a very small car, I admit that large SUV's irritated me because of the size and my inability to see around them and that their headlights were always in my rear view mirror when they were behind me. - So were pick up trucks.

However, I'm renting a Pontiac Vibe right now and I really like it. It gets good mileage and is easy to drive. It isn't huge.

I'm looking around for small SUVs with a good safety rating. My husband was driving my sports car and was the victim of a teenage driver trying to commit suicide. (really) She drove into him at a rate of 110 mph. He was driving 65 and didn't even see her coming.

He is OK (just sore) but my beloved little car is totaled.

So, who has a favorite small SUV ?

it's not the SUV that intimidates you, it's the human behind the wheel! as for all the negative comments, fine. drive your little mini cooper or whatever, but where are you going to put 4 dogs, a baby and the groceries? and what will you do in bad weather? i drive and love a jeep cherokee, but given my druthers i would be in a honda element....... safe, reliable, not too big but flexible inside for cargo or people, and surprising on gas. easy to park and drive. not going to win a beauty contest, tho!

So, I ended up getting a Chrysler Pacifica. I didn't have my choice of alot of cars. I like the Pacifica. It is a cross between an SUV and a mini van. (I'm determined to never drive a mini van! ) It drives very smoothly, has lots of bells and whistles, is more comfortable than the Jeeps I drove and is not bad on gas. It also will seat 6 or seven -if one is small- comfortably.
