LOL! Hi Freespirit!

I don't think it's offensive. But I do think that those people who do have given the campaign a boost by complaining about it! Everybody knows about this advertisement now, whereas it would've just faded into obscurity otherwise. Mmm, makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Actually, I saw a news item about it here - apparently our board of censors wouldn't allow it - why is beyond me! It seems like a perfectly good ad to me

(of course we weren't allowed to hear the actual phrase! - that was bleeped out!) haha!

Actually, seeing that a couple of people are from Melbourne - I don't suppose anyone knows a really good recipe for dim sims, do they? I love them, and I've looked all over the internet for reasonable recipes, but they tend to be more Chinesey than Greek, and a bit more like large wontons (sorry for hijacking the post- I just felt hungry!)

best wishes - Jane

No I dontr have any recipees for dim sims mate but here in Melbourne we have The famous south melbourne market dim sims. They are so yummy!!!

I could not figure out myself why they would not allow it there when in some shows in the uk they drop the f word quite often.Oh well it did the add a favour by banning it anyway.

Now I'm very, very jealous!!! I wish we had them here!

As for that ad - I feel vaguely insulted by the censorship board 'nannying' us like that - I imagine there would be a few picky people who might just mind the language, but compared to what we get on television, often before the 9 o'clock watershed, it's nothing! It just makes us look silly (or even sillier than we often already look )

Hello back! Whereabouts in Melbourne are you? I'm in Blackburn in the eastern suburbs.

The games were great. We had some bad (or good?) timing with our holiday and were in NSW for most of the games, but got back in time to go to the athletics finals at the G with 83000 other people! So we missed out on the traffic but got to see the games. Oh, except for trying to get home on the train at midnight...

That's what annoys me about censorship. Don't they know we can think for ourselves. If they're worried about what some of the population will think then only schedule the ad for late night TV. What's so difficult about that?

I know what you mean freespirit. We're renting a unit and we can't wait to have a place of our own. Our neighbours are very sweet, but I'd love to be able to lie in the sun without having to scramble to cover up every time they walk down the driveway. LOL. I doubt we'll get our dream home, though, at first. We'll have to work up to it. And we won't be able to afford to buy in Blackburn either, so I will miss living here.

Hi elle we would have loved to have moved up to the dandenongs but it was way out of our price range. The land over your way is so expensive...you can see why though..you live in a lovely part of town.
I am sure you guys will get what you want eventually...Remember all good things come to those who wait.

Yeah, it's brilliant being near the Dandies, we go walking very often. But it must be nice being close to the Otways too, and the great ocean road. I would love to get down there more often. I just adore those cliffs. I feel I want to go and take it all in before more of them fall down, and then when they do I want to go and see how different it looks. It fascinates me that it is constantly changing.

Ooh, have fun! I hope you have nice weather. I think that ocean can be cold this time of year (brrrr). I've just worked out that it was Dec 2004 when we were last down there - I can't believe it's been that long! (I was going to say it was this Dec just past, but realised it was longer, wow.) I think I need to twist my hubby's arm into making a trip...

Here you go, Dim Sim recipe:

1 pkt won ton wrappers, whatever they are.
600 gm finely minced pork or any chunky meat (not tropical fish, too bitter).
100 gm bamboo shoots finely chopped (watch those fingers)
1 x spring onion finely chopped
2 x tablespoons finely chopped fresh coriander
2 tbl light soy sauce
vegetable oil or any old fat for deep frying

Cover the wrappers (what are they???) with a cloth until needed. In a food processor grind pork until smooth, or do it by hand if you're really angry. Add bamboo shoots spring onion and coriander and work to a smooth paste using hands, not feet or face. Don't forget to wash your hands first, especially if you've been stroking the dog. To form the dumplings place a rounded tablespoon of the filling in the centre of a wrapper (no, I don't know either) and press the edges of the wrapper up around the filling to almost enclose it.
*
Fry the dim sims several at a time until the pastry is golden brown - about 2 minutes should do it. No burning now.
Remove and drain on absorbent paper or loo roll if you're a bit stingy. Serve the dim sims hot with small dishes of soy sauce, or ketchup, or gravy for dipping. I dip mine in wine, but I'm quite sophisticated so you may not be able to do this.

Makes 20 to 24. Great if you've got lots of friends like me. I mean, not lots of friends 'like' me, great looking blokes with beards, but...oh you know what I mean so stop pretending you don't.

*insert some more stuff here about making the thingies.

LOL Familychoice! You should be a recipe writer.

I feel bad that I only have the vaguest idea what dim sims and won tons are. I think that the items I'm thinking of that I think I remember having eaten might be either dim sims or won tons but since I couldn't understand a syllable of what the waiter was saying when I attempted to order (or rather let him convince me that he would bring something to the table that was food and not, say, an extra napkin), I have no idea. It probably was. Yes. I think so. *scratches head*
