I love Spanish, I just started to learn this language, however, I'm pressed for time. I can't devote enough time to learning this wonderful language. I definitely know that 70% of my success in acquisition of this language depends on me. What tips can you give me?

I understand that the situation itself is a bit ridiculous.

The best advice I have for you is to communicate, and to completely engross yourself in the language -- read [or just look at] spanish magazines, visit websites in spanish, watch spanish television, speak to anyone you can in spanish, listen to spanish music, etc. You will never, ever learn the language if you do not make an effort to understand and appreciate it. I am a spanish teacher, and the best luck I have with my students, and what helped me the most, was to truly value the media.

My favorite, and my students for that matter, activity is to listen to spanish music, and follow along with the lyrics, then try to figure out what the song is about. look up important words, and go from there. Or, buy a Cosmo, People, etc. magazine in Spanish, and one in English. Look for matching articles -- read the spanish version first, take what you can, then read the English. Same with books. Let me suggest La casa en Mango Street/House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros -- super easy read, and a wonderful book! Hope this helps, I would be happy to give you some additional resources if you would like!

Yes! That's it! I also tell my students how important is listening to Spanish songs, or radio stations. You know, I still remember when I was studying English; I listened to my favourite English songs, and with the help of the lyrics I learned a lot of new words and expressions.

And I'm still learning!!!

Good advice, Stacy!!

One thing that is helping me learn Spanish is to watch Novellas on some of the Spanish satellite channels. I, too, am pressed for time and there are some valuable resources on the Net. Several sites now have free access to sound files and short video tutorials that are helpful. You might want to try online lessons with a tutor. I've had luck with an affordable service known as Nulengua ( Nulengua ) where the lessons are conducted live with a tutor. I also go online and read news stories in Spanish in one browser with another browser open to an online translator.

I would get a kids cd with music like if your happy and you knowit clap you hands and Jesus loves me you know those songs that you have memorized by heart then learn the words in spanish that way you can consentrat on the words in spainish and not trying to concentreate and look up and wonder if you got it right this wil also help you say the words right and if the cd has the words printed to the song it s even better because you can learn to reconize the words to... just a thought the only problem is you dont learn words that adults use medical, bussiness, other not so nice words that people say...

La mejor forma de aprender un idioma es viviendo en un sitio donde lo hablen. Pasar unos dias en un pais de Sur America o Espana y verse forzado a practicarlos para sobrevivir es la manera mas rapida.
Good luck

I have a similar problem. I'm an over the road truck driver and can't sit down at regular scheduled times to be tutored. Are there any good programs where I can learn and be tutored when it's convenient to my work/sleep time and at my leasure? [color:"purple"] [/color]
