I thought it would be interesting to know if children have a television in their bedroom and what age they are.
Back in the early 70s when I was in school and home sick I would get a small tv in my room to watch. At that time parents would go to get medicines and leave the kid home. Nowadays you would be in big trouble if you did such a thing.

My son (4) and daughter(2) share a room. They have a TV. We are staying with inlaws because our house still hasn't sold from where we moved. They have 7 TVs, so it is not big deal to the kids. I have more trouble getting him to turn the lamp off and stop reading at night. I have had to unplug the lamps, so I don't wake up at 4 AM with him reading.

My son does, much to my dismay.
I was mostly against my son watching tv, but he needs the visual stimulation to relax enough to fall asleep. We normally only watch Shrek or Shrek2. He does get to watch Dora while he is on his trampoline. Sadly though, he will try harder to make words and new sounds for Map then he will for myself or the speech lady.

Wow Judith that is a lot of TVs for one household - well I guess two since you are with relatives.
We have a tv in a bedroom but it is not used at night, only during the day.
Samten - we had a trampoline for several years and just gave it away last year.

Yes, my son has a tv in his room. He mainly uses it for his play station and I'm very careful about what he's watching. For me it's a question of balancing how much activity he gets, and how much he reads. If I felt that he was neglecting his reading then I'd make sure he couldn't watch tv or play his playstation. But I probably don't always get it right <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

My son has had a TV in his room since he was born (his brother was 14 and they shared a room). I am VERY careful about what he watches and he is now 10 and from previous experiences will NOT break the rules. I caught him once watching a South Park episode and thank goodness he only saw 10 minutes which was way too much for my liking, anyway TV got unplugged so did the playstation etc. so he learned.

We're very old fashioned in our TV attitudes. We are a 1 TV household. Its only on for a few hours each day and the children are always supervised.

My kids don't have a television in their room. We only have one TV, and it's in our family room.

I don't have kids yet, but (once I do) I aspire to have a 1 TV home as well. Don't know if it will pan out or not, but that's the goal...

We are a 1 TV household as well, and the TV is in the front room! What can I say we are a bit old-fashioned as well as frugal!

Hey nice to see a thread I started years ago still has some life in it.
We got a new TV in the bedroom a few months ago since the other one broke and my son must have a VCR player and they are hard to find. Sears is the place to the rescue each time and this one has both DVD and VCR.
The small 13 inch vcr tv is on the back porch in a box and will be sold for a few bucks on craigslist and the other one is on stand by for emergency purposes.

I wasn't allowed a small 13 inch tv in my room until I was in Junior High school. This was because my parents didn't want to use it as a distraction tool. Also my tastes in some tv shows didn't match my parents. I loved lots of discovery network, pbs, food, and science shows. They watched a lot of things like news and prime time tv.
Now I have one in my room as an adult and use it when I cannot fall asleep or dont want to bother my roomie by going into the living room while she is sleeping in her bedroom. I like to watch a ton of news shows now in additino to my food tv and science shows.
