This is the first movie we watched in the "Classic Watchers" Club. I just posted my article about Citizen Kane. Do you love it or hate it?

I personally love it, but I can see how others might not like it.

I have never seen it, but know it's one of those I SHOULD see...The problem is I can never get a good answer about whether it's good or not...

I know there's some reference to Rosebud in the movie, but have no idea what it is...My friend asked me about it the other day and I was embarassed I didn't know!!!

I saw it for the first time about 4 years ago. I was just getting into classic films and I actually rented it from the library. I really enjoyed it. Rosebud is what he says when he is dying at the begining of the movie. Everyone is trying to find out what it means the rest of the film during flashbacks over his life.

I say see it once and if you don't like it at least you know. My example about advice on movies is the Sixth Sense. Everyone in my family loved it. I had to see. I figured it out the first few minutes and hated the rest of it. Everyone is different.

Never seen it. I always wanted to but never remember to get it whenever I'm renting, buying, or Netflixing a movie.

Really?? You hated the Sixth Sense?? I guess everyone IS different!!!

I really liked that movie...I will take your advice and watch Citizen Kane, though...definitely a classic, and if I don't like it, it's two hours, right? <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I am the only person I know that dislikes it. But I figured out how it was going to end when he was shot. That did it for me.

If you dislike Citizen Kane, atleast you will know what Rosebud means!

Citizen Kane is a movie that is really long. You really have to pay close attention to it. In spite of those facts I did enjoy it. It is worth a watch if you are into classics. It moves a lot slower than movies made today so if you are a classic fan you should enjoy it. "Rosebud" ~ classic.

To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.

My husband actually fell asleep through it, but he is the kind of person that can fall asleep at red light.

After you see the movie, be sure to take the Citizen Kane quiz. I just posted it.

Citizen Kane is from another era and vastly overrated.

"Citizen Kane is from another era and vastly overrated."

As for it being vastly over-rated, most posters seemed to have enjoyed it. Why do you think it is not only over-rated but vastly so?

Why do you think so many critics, film historians and regular viewers think so highly of it?

I think it was another generation of film critics which related to Citizen Kane. I don't think baby boomers went for it. Young kids today probably never heard ot it.

"I think it was another generation of film critics which related to Citizen Kane."

This is simply not true.

If you look at any of the many lists of "100 greatest" which innundate the web, all produced since the millenium, you will find "Citizen Kane" at or near the top of all of the lists of 100 Greatest films.

Among the reasons "Kane" is rated so highly by professional film critics is its use of innovative cinematographic technique.

Much of what we have seen in film over the last 60 years may be traced directly to and should be seen as an homage to Welles and "Kane".

It's certainly a great film, probably in the top ten movies of all time, but I wouldn't put it at number one.
