Why do leprechauns only have orange hair? I never see any blonde or dark haired, or cute leprechauns. And this one is bald!

Well, at least this one is different!

And I thought the Leprechauns had red hair?!?

My question is, why don't we ever see any girl Leprechauns?

It is said that Leprechauns have grey beards, but I have never actually seen any reference to them having red hair. I have always seen them with red hair in artwork. Funny, I have met many Irish folk, but only a few that were red-headed :::: Well, NATURAL red-heads that is LOL.

I have never heard any stories of female leprechauns...

My friend lived in Ireland for 4 months, and she said everyone that lived there had brown or red hair, and they all had blue eyes! I went to IrelandsOwn, but they no longer have their leprechaun webcam; I never did get to see one. Tomorrow I am going to eat cabbage and watch Bonanza, "Hoss and the leprechauns".

I'm off to visit my lovely Irish friend very soon. He has white hair & beard & is worried about being mistaken for Father Christmas. I'll make some enquiries re the leprechaun debate. Happy St Patrick's Day to y'all

There's a stereotype about the Irish having red hair, hence the red-headed leprechaun. I was told that the red hair came to the Irish from the Celts from India to Central Europe and finally to the fringes of the world (Scots, Irish, Bretons, Welsh, Cornwall, Isle of Man...), but I believe (via Tom Robbins) that they are descendants of aliens who came to Earth and made whoopee. Either source works for me. As 8 of my siblings are red-headed, I kind of lean toward the latter explanation...
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

That is a very logical explanation! They were probably Martians, since Mars is the red planet. My maternal grandmother came over from Ireland, and her hair was the color of a carrot. Now I am thinking...Mars Rover might be looking for the leprechaun gold, it may have been beamed up to Mars. After all, has anyone ever actually found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? Several years ago I was standing in a condo 15 floors up, at the beach. A rainbow started and ended in front of us; one end was in the middle of houses, the other end was in the water, right past the shore. We searched but found no gold.

Firefly, you are so funny! The end of the rainbow was probably too deep in the water! The lephechaun mermaids are probably guarding THAT pot of gold!!

My mother-in-law came from Ireland and her hair was also the color of carrot (that is a nice way to say orange) and she had the most beautiful blue eyes. 8 out of 10 kids have the blue eyes but only half have the carrot color in their hair. Actually, a one of them does look a little like a leprechaun...LOL I can almost see a little swatch of reddish, orange hair under their hats to match their cheeks!

Happy St. Patty's Day

My daughter, away at college and unaware of the leprechaun situation being discussed, sent my sister (who is here visiting me), a St. Patrick's Day card. On the front, is a very handsome, brunette leprechaun. Shawn is his name, and he looks like a Chippendale in a speedo They may be few and far between, but they do exist!

Babyquacker, the rainbow ended in very shallow water! We ran down to the water and frolicked in what we thought was the end of the rainbow; we forgot to leave someone upstairs to guide us, and photograph this!

Well, heck, that was all you needed, firefly, someone to guide you! They would have been able to see all the sparkle shimmering under the water (and could have gotten a picture to prove it).

Oh, yes, I have seen Shawn and his brother, David on those cards...mmm, mmm, mmm. They are handsome, young guys who look just like Chippendales (at least what I've seen from pictures) LOL.! I got one (brunette) in his speedo serving me my meds, after surgery, from my niece. It was CUTE!

Mmmmm.... I wonder what my chances are that we have a leprechaun or two like that around here? Well, it is So. California You just never know...

Well I'm back from the Emerald Isle, which was looking particularly gorgeous in the sudden Spring sunshine. I did my research for you & can say that Leprechauns in the shops are mostly red-headed. I looked out for some real ones, but they were too nippy for me & stayed hidden giggling in the undergrowth.

Well Done Lauren! This American is very pleased with your report on leprechauns. Now... me thinks we should send you to Stonehenge to camp overnight at the solstice so that you can report on the spirits of the druids celebrating the longest day

You are welcome. I'm happy to go on location at various special spots. Stonehenge is a bit tricky now they've fenced off the stones though.

No this is my truly lovely Irish friend who feels like my big brother. We have a very comfortable, warm friendship. I've never asked him what I smell of- I suspect I'd get a rude response. I don't see him that often but we are doing Chelsea Flower Show together next month.

Red hair cant come from mars!! Martions are little green men!! duh!!! why arent there little green women? I take that back maybe there little Green men with red hair!!! hey maybe the little green women got tired of the little green men and put them here and we didnt like them either so they became leprechauns and some people have red hair because the women gave the little green men with red hair a shot and they quikly found that they didnt like them so only a few people had the red hair and when we get sick we turn green to remind our selves we dont like them!!!lol
