Wow! That will keep me busy for quite some time. I'm trying to get through some of the other requests right now. This week - Welsh culture. Next week - probably Cornish culture. Then maybe castles. And then I can possibly take a look at some of your ideas. They are all great!

Thanks!

I used to live in Wales*. In fact 'used to live in wales' is my middle name, ask anyone. Very cold, and wet, very grey and foggy, misty, full of celtic miserable rugby players, hills, beards, nervous sheep and lava bread**. Three channels of TV plus one in Welsh Language (Gwnawn hyn trwy amryw o sianeli gwybodaeth)***

What I'd really like to talk about though is the londoners 'cockerny rhyming slang'. For example -
Thora Hird - turd****
Apples and pears - fruit
Dog and duck - something rude I think, forget that one
Bob Hope - erm, oh I've had enough of this.

* that's true that is
** bread
*** which means...oh just look it up
**** never mind about that

I was supposed to have gone to Wales when I was doing my study abroad program in Bath. But my Grandpa died during the program and I flew home for the funeral on the week that the trip to Wales took place. The class visited Tinturn Abbey while one of our English professors read the poem from Wordsworth. I'm so sorry I missed that, and I dream to have that experience someday.

I enjoyed your post, by the way.

How about the UK's place in Europe? - how they (we) feel about nationality in general, given the obvious separate divides - England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales - and suggestions for regional assemblies within England's counties! It would be interesting to know how each country's citizens felt about European integration, and even something as basic as losing the pound in favour of the euro!

best wishes (from Yorkshire) Jane

Thanks for your input. I am actually reading a book about that right now. Well, it's about that and what it means to be an Englishman (or woman). I plan to eventually write on this subject.

I like the idea of an ongoing piece on slang and accents.

Maybe you could also do a piece on British fashion in different decades.

Reviews of British writers.

I like what you've done so far, so I think good ideas will naturally keep coming.
