I'm hooked on it, and I can't believe how long I avoided it. Yoga has squeezed itself into my life in a quiet persistent way, and I'm grateful. Even if I don't feel like a full workout, I can usually manage a few yoga stretches. Any yoga lovers here?

I've thought of getting into Yoga at times - but at this point I'm thinking Tai Chi would be more up my ally, and then later work up to Yoga <g>

I know what you mean about classes, Samten. I have that trouble too. But I have found some really good yoga "classes" on television. Works great for me.

And, Cysco, I don't think you have to worry about working up to Yoga. If you want to try it, just be sure to find a beginner's group. I have a friend who teaches Tai Chi, but I've never tried it.

Thirty years! Wow, Susan, I'd say you're definitely a convert. I've got less than 10, but some day I'd like to get certified to teach, so I may catch up to you <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hi,
I've always wanted to try yoga, but get overwhelmed by the different kinds. Also, the classes here are way out of my budget. Are there some simple, but good dvd's that teach the techniques?

Hi, Fishwife (great name!)

Don't worry too much about the different kinds. You will be surprised to find that the moves are very similar in all of them. Some are just more gentle, others geared toward something specific like posture or weight loss. Just start with a beginner's version of something (hopefully general).

Yoga Zone has good DVD's for home. In my area, the cable television company provides an "on demand" service. I think that costs about $4 a month to subscribe, and boy is it worth it. They have a series called Lifestyles & Learning and there are several yoga classes there. You just turn on your TV whenever you want, and yoga is waiting for you. New classes every month so you don't get bored. Most of the yoga is by Yoga Zone.

You can also buy the DVD's through Amazon, or you might try your local library to rent them for free. I have a link to a good starter DVD called AM/PM at the end of my yoga article here:

Good luck, and let us know what you think of it!
