Apparently doing a repetitive activity is a good way to get started with meditation. This is why some people use Chinese meditation balls. Yoga and Tai Chi, etc, are other ways - repeating the same body movement over and over until you reach trance state. But even things like crochet and knitting can induce a state of calm once you're practiced enough not to have to concentrate fully on your technique. Try meditating while you're knitting!

I have learned since my surgery how important having a healthy and balanced diet is.

It is hard for the body to function in balance, if we do not put the proper fuel into it - water being the main thing that we abuse! (Or underuse I should say)

I like to write down all that needs working on too! It's great to break things down; the problems seem much more manageable that way

Number one fix it is yoga!
I check my mood and then see what thoughts have brought on the unbalanced feelings. I use gratitude and appreciation to lift my spirits.
There's nothing like a bit of intense physical activity such as gardening or a brisk walk to brighten the mood.
A nice big glass of vegetable juice works wonders!
Clean out a cupboard or a room and have a de-clutter. That's fun and creates lots of positive energy.

I agree yoga and meditation are great for staying in balance. Since I started meditating, I feel much calmer all the time. I don't seem to have those moments when things are "sliding out of control" anymore.

For those who think meditation is hard, maybe you're thinking of it as difficult. Just sitting and relaxing your body and letting the thoughts come and go is helpful. I use Dr. Wayne Dyer's CD's too. Even putting on the headphones, closing your eyes and listening to Enya or something soothing quiets your mind.

Where I used to get stressed out about things, now I take a deep breath and reach for a better thought. Whatever you focus on will grow in your life so if you focus on calm and peace, that is what will grow.
