Most Creative Film - Okay, it depends on whether you are going to take just this year or going back a ways. For this year I'd say "Sin City" - the combinations of B/W and spot colorization, and that they actually made it look like the comic book it was titled after was very neat.
If you can go back further, I'd have to say "Toy Story" for being the first fully CG animated film - they really broke ground with that one.

The Matrix, for challenging the way we think about reality, and also completely changing the way action sequences are choreographed.

Another one for B&W and spot colourisation - Schindler's List, for just the hint of colour on the little girl's jacket to say more than a 500 page thesis could.

I just started watching the Sopranos this year (I'm catching up with the old ones), and I'm amazed how caught up I am in it. I avoided it because I thought it might be difficult to watch, but it's the characters' relationships that are mezmerizing.

I missed the first season unfortunately and never managed to see any reruns. So although I've heard a lot of great things about it, I've never watched it. I might look for it on DVD when I get a chance.

Ok - got another one!
Firefly & Serenity - Television series & movie about the same crew of the spaceship Serenity (aircraft type firefly).
By Joss Whedon - I was watching the extras on the DVD collection the other night, and had never really paid attention to this, but on these space scenes, they have blurry, unfocused shots of firefights - just as if the camera were mounted on the actual spacecraft (which is not possible right? LOL)
Anyway, there are a lot of special effects in both the series and movie that just make them seem "at home" and real, but you don't really notice them as "special effects" until you sit down and think about the fact that - "Hey, this isn't really being shot in space!"
Bravo to Joss Whedon and his special effects crew for making this film seem so real!

I really enjoyed Serenity too, although I've never seen Firefly. It didn't seem to matter at all. So I'm now hoping we'll get Firefly screened on TV here soon.

I've gotta throw a vote in for Twin Peaks for TV, and any David Lynch film (Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, Dune) for movies.

I think Memento was an incredibly creative film - it was one of those that seriously played with my mind for almost a week afterwards!
Anyone else seen that?

Hi Wonderwoman - I loved Memento too. It's definitely one of those you have to watch a few times. Have you seen Fight Club, The Usual Suspects, The Village, Basic, Identity, or Cypher? These are all twisty, mind-game movies that you'll probably enjoy if you liked Memento. The Butterfly Effect is clever too, although Kutcher spoils it a bit.

Loved Twin Peaks Megan! It's one of those experiences that has stayed with me over the years and I've tried a few times to think about what it was about TP that affected me so much. Having watched Lynch's other movies and been a little disappointed with them I came to the conclusion that he works best in a longer format where he has time to allow his eccentric characters to develop gradually. In movies like Lost Highway it was too much too soon and dealt with too quickly - I never got to feel for those characters, as good as actors like Patricia Arquette and Bill Pullman are. With TP I felt I knew the people of that town - not well, but I had a sense of them as real people (I will never forget the woman with the log). It also takes a while to develop that brooding, mysterious mood - it crept up on you through the bizarre actions and dialogue of the characters and you accepted it as part of their world. I found that same effect frustrating and irritating in the movies - it was too obviously a ploy to hide the storyline from us. With TP we were satisfied each week with little bits of the story, all the while being led on a goose-chase.
Another thing that affected me from Twin Peaks was the haunting theme song "Falling" by Julee Cruise (yes, I looked the artist up, I'm not that good [imageBellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons. Memento has Guy Pearce in it, Michelle, and also Carrie-Anne Moss who played Trinity in The Matrix.

Another one in the weird mind-game type genre is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind...I didn't think I'd like it at all but I ended up loving how creative it was...

I'd like to see that. *Adds to growing future DVD rentals list*
My hubby doesn't like Jim, so I'll have to find some time to watch it by myself.
