You know, I think it's also about true humility - I see that as an accurate and confident reflection of oneself, neither puffing oneself up or putting oneself down, and understanding our position in a relationship of oneness with all others . The problem for me is developing a sense of self-love which involves accepting my own deficiencies, without magnifying them so that they overshadow everything else

best wishes - Jane

Jane - this above all things is the one thing you (in the generic sense, rather than the specific or personal sense) should be doing... accepting unconditionally the wonderful, unique and special being you are. There are no copies. This is it. Uniquely, you have this life.... Live it to your full potential...

"Pride" can be translated in two ways:
There's FIERTE, (pronounced fee-er-tay) which means a pride with honour, that demands respect... as pride in one's work, or one's family, or in one's genuine talents and personal ability...
and there's ORGUEIL (pronounces or-ghael) which is the vain conceited pride.....

I think the american equivilent of this would be pride and arrogance. Unfortunately too often people mistake pride with arrogance. It is too bad. It's good to take pride in our accomplishments and successes.

Michelle I think you've hit the nail on the head, pride being listed as a sin makes 'good people' almost embarrassed to hold their heads up & be proud of who they are.

I think Alexandra's definitions are spot on. To be arrogant & boastful is pretty unappealing behaviour & I'm sure that sort of conceitedness is the 'sinful' stuff. To be able to feel self esteem and recognise one's own strengths and achievements has a much more positive energy behind it & I think anyone would be hard put to call that a sin.

I'm going to start a 'Something I am proud of about myself' thread right now & we can have a 'feel good' space
