Today IS good.... keep it in the present... or everything you are working for will always be 'out there'...
Today Is Good, I am happy, content, serene and at peace.
A thought is only a thought.... and a thought can be changed.

Remember:
It all starts in our head, with what we tell ourselves....

Most of us do struggle with negative thinking Jane. keep working at it & eventually your new positive thought will be mirrored in the reality you've created.

It goes:
Today will be good
Today will be good
Today will be good
Today will be good
Today will be good
Hey wait a minute today really is good

Sometimes when I can't make my thoughts change because I'm so upset I'll start with "Wouldn't it be nice if...." Then that can get me to a point where I can move ahead to really feeling good

That's a really good idea Deanna (of the excellent avatar!), I'll jump start myself like that the next time I feel myself slipping

Thanks (and today has indeed been a good day!)

best wishes - Jane

I don't know why I haven't found this thread til now! This is one I really need!

Well certainly in British culture we are taught as children that to boast is wrong & being modest is smiled upon.

Well that must be one thing that didn't get rooted out of America during the Revolution. Because trust me, we're not encouraged over on this end of the pond either! Of the "7 Deadly Sins" - Pride is listed 1st. And I for one as a child, was not encouraged in any way to be prideful.

I don't care how well I ever did on anything, I could have always done it better. And after half a lifetime of that, its a hard habit to break. I am so used to looking for the faults, that even the good things can be turned into bad.

I am still in a struggle with someone (and myself) over using my musical abilities in church. I am afraid to push because it feels prideful, but another part of me feels I should because my songs have something important to say. I'm not sure how to reconcile the two.

I believe that when we use our talents to their fullest we are honoring the gifts that God has given us.

But I know how you feel. It took me a while to say "Hey, I'm pretty good at something!" Admitting we are good at something is not the same as being boastful. We can state facts without being prideful.

It's a shame the English language, being normally so rich, diverse and universal, hasn't come up with a solution to this one....
In french (with the eqivalent being true of other latin-based European languages), "Pride" can be translated in two ways:
There's FIERTE, (pronounced fee-er-tay) which means a pride with honour, that demands respect... as pride in one's work, or one's family, or in one's genuine talents and personal ability...
and there's ORGUEIL (pronounces or-ghael) which is the vain conceited pride.....

We should dwell comfortably with fiert and develop the orgueil less.... But we do have the right to pride....
