I chose the lunch hour because it helps me review the morning and center me for the rest of the day.

Hi Susan
Early morning is my favorite time.
I am a morning person and am often up watching dawn in the summer - it is for me a lovely time of the day, when alot of people are still in bed and everything is just waking up - it just sets me up for the usual hectic day ahead!

I always meditate right before bed, or right when I wake up in the morning because I find it so much easier to be in the alpha state than midday trying to bring myself out of beta.

Early morning for me. It is when I'm freshest and before the rest of the day gets in the way. I feel that its giving God the best part of me.

Although any time which can be managed is good, traditionally the best times to meditate are at sunrise, sunset, and at noon. At these times there is a balance in nature that makes medition more beneficial.

Before retirement, my main meditation was in the night. I did have a short meditation each morning before leaving for work. Now my longer meditation is in the morning. One should never go to bed without even a short maditation. We should remember that it is the depth of the meditation that counts, not the length.
Set aside a time each week for a longer meditation. Perhaps several hours if you are able. I set aside one evening each week and spend the time in meditation. After a relaxing bath, I skip dinner and enter the meditation room. Often it is these times my oneness with the devine increases. I pray deeply for the devotion to keep meditating and ask that I may love Him/Her more.

Le't talk about our meditation times some more. I've found the past year that before going to bed is my best time of day, because I take time to reflect on the day, plan for the next day and give appreciations for the good in my life.

I try to spend some time before going to sleep clearing my mind and relaxing. I think meditation would be great just before bed.

Usually during the day I'm too busy and thinking and moving to sit in patience and meditate.

However, the past couple weeks I've been going for acupuncture which takes about an hour of laying in a darkened room with peaceful music. I've been meditating at that time and its' wonderful!

I definitely prefer the morning - it just sets me up nicely for the day. But after a hard day at work, I do find a 20 minute session helps me to 'unwind' and definitely allows me to sleep better.

I voted for early morning. I enjoy the quiet of the early morning before the rest of the household arises.

I was meditating in the evenings after the kids would go to bed and before I went to bed. I want to switch it to early mornings because of the change of seasons. I have been setting my clock 15 minutes earlier then my usual waking time but I have been having stomach issues again and have been sick. Maybe tomorrow!

I definitely understand falling asleep while meditating. "Dreaming about meditating" -- lol! I still prefer early morning though, if I can manage to stay awake. It usually isn't worse than later, anyway, because I can fall asleep at anytime!

For me I often lay in bed not falling asleep so I take the time to meditate then. Otherwise I would feel guilty that I am wasting time on myself rather than working on the website smile

Can't get to sleep? I recommend a mantra repetition - here's an article on how to do it -

Meditation is not supposed to be used as an aid to sleep. That's a job for relaxation exercises....
The point of meditation is to develop mental perspicacity, acuity and perception. Meditation is a discipline, not an aid to calm and peaceful sleep. That's the point. It's something to be practise in an alert and wakeful state of mind.
Whatever it is you're doing to help you gain sleep - it's not 'meditation'....

Since one is still alert, I recommend getting up and sitting for the meditation, then when feeling peaceful climb back under the covers.

I meditate first thing in the morning. My brain isn't totally awake so it makes it easier for me to be calm longer.

Afterward I'll do some of my best writing, thinking or problem solving.

I like to meditate in the evening after I'm finished with everything that I needed to get done that day. That way I can relax and those thoughts of what I need to do next don't keep popping in. I'm fairly new at this, but I'm finding that it is an amazing thing to be able to clear your mind. I feel so peaceful and free.

I am;
I have been meditating for two years, off & on. I am trying to get back to it since it has helped me a lot, with many issues.
I saw your article on the cover page, and then I looked at your other articles, and as I said, I am very impressed with your writing and the way you are able to convey what you are thinking.
I also read a lot of other subjects, so I know a good writer when I see one.
I haven't been to this forum but now I know where else to go regularly!

I actually don't like morning meditation - I need it more during the day! Sometimes at night, but it is better for me during the work day!

Nicola, I find it hard to get up and functioning before my cup of coffee - I'm not a morning meditator, either.

BillieCat, that's great you can take time to meditate during the work day. It can be a big stress relief.

I chose bedtime which is best for me because it is the only time I can be completely alone. Meditating just before I crawl into bed helps me to sort out any issues I had during the day and put them where they belong. Meditation is different for each of us and if one feels they need it to help them sleep better then that is their way of meditating to find calm and peace. One cannot say "meditation is supposed to be.." any certain way. Meditation is a very personal thing and if you feel you have to follow rules, then what is the purpose of it? The purpose is to bring inner peace and clarity. And if it helps you to sleep, by clarification and enlightment, then that is peace.

I meditate daily after lunch because it's a time that I'm alone and need to slow the physical pace down from my morning work out and dog walking. It helps me to refocus my mental energies on positive reflections so that I can get my creative spirit flowing and shake off any negative energies coming at me from sources I have no control over. It's sort of a midday recharge. I look forward to it every day and if I miss it I can tell by bedtime that something is missing. In that case, I sometimes grab a meditative tape to go to bed on to close the day on a peaceful note.
