Let's get ready for Valentine's Day! This is an excellent time to encourage messages of friendship between children.

If you have any suggestions or stories to share, we'd love to read them.

How do you cut out red paper hearts? Folding construction paper and cutting an 'ice cream cone' shape on the folded side always looks good to me.

I have my older son sign his brother's name on cards for Matthew's classmates. There are only 8 in his autism class, but it looks better in a kids handwriting than mine.

It seems in Elementary school they have every kid get one, you cannot just do some to a few select kids.

Try ordering a stamp with his name on it as his signature

That's a really good idea! He can write it a few times and pick out which one he likes the best and they (like "Things Engraved") can turn it into a stamp...self inking, at that!

They also have all kinds of these emoticons <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> that are cute for kids to use as stamps. My kids always loved stamping with them!

There are so many fonts available now, I bet there are 'kid script' fonts that would look great on Valentines. I like the rubber stamp idea, too.

Our local Target has gift cards that have recordable messages - with a button for 'record' and one for 'play' - that would be great if recorded with a same age peer's voice for "Happy Valentines Day!" or another message of friendship.

I think it's a good idea to give every classmate a Valentine during the elementary school years; children recall being remembered on Valentines Day.

A few years back one of my son's teachers gave her class homemade temporary tattoos on little bits of paper backed clear plastic - any idea how that is done?

I think it would be nice just to have the word 'friend' on a tattoo - of course they have to be reversed like t-shirt transfers, something I have forgotten more often than I have remembered. Sigh.

Wishing all the best for all our Valentines,
