I'm currently working on a costume that has a long white apron on top. I have simple wihte cotton for this part, and I was wondering if I should double the fabric, or just hem the edges. I was worrried that if I did just one layer, the navy dress I have beneath it would show through, and make things look too messy. Would anyone have suggestions on what I should do? I want to make the costume look as good as it can, so I'm willing to put extra effort into it.

The apron will hang better if the material is doubled.

Ok, thank you very much. I'll double it like you advised me to. One more question though; when sewing the doubled pieces, do I sew it like a hem, or do I sew the pieces together on the inside, then iron the edges down(I'm sorry I canot explain myseld better. I'm fairly new)?

Sew them right sides together, leaving an opening in an inconspicuous spot. Cut the corners and trim the seams to about 1/4 inch then turn the whole thing right side out. Iron the seams flat, hand stitch the opening and for a finished look topstitch around the edges.
