Let me tell you, this shawl is anything but easy! So far, we've discovered a couple of mistakes in the pattern. I've already ripped it twice, and now my constitution to make it is even stronger. I've emailed Elann a couple of times about the pattern instructions- thank goodness for the KAL, where many knitters can find solutions quickly!

It's a gorgeous shawl, and I'm of the opinion the designer knit it, then wrote the pattern!

Well in the designers defense <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> sometimes you find a problem, then you rip it out and "think" that you have corrected the written pattern. I know that shouldn't happen but sometimes it does.

Elann agrees- and they state they are going to revise the pattern. The pattern is right for the Victorian Lace Poncho, but this one has some problems. The way the pattern is written, it's more of a "guideline" than a pattern in the typical sense of how I think a pattern should be written.

Knit Picks does excellent patterns. I'm impressed with the quality of their free patterns, and they leave no question about how to knit the article.

Elann sent me an apology email, and only corrected the pattern to say- "based on" stitches as described by Barbara Walker.

I'm about three balls into what is supposed to take 8 balls of yarn. At least, with the revisions I'm making, I'm able to knit it, enjoy it- and I'll have a thick lace shawl of Horseshoe lace. It looks nice spread out.

Frustrating, but- one knitter in the KAL is working the pattern out using all the stitches the pattern recommends.
