Hello!

My name is Jessica Smith and I work for a publishing company (Hylas
Publishing) that will be creating a book about knitting. And I'm working
on finding original patterns and works in progress that may fit the bill
to be included within the book.

Here is an overview of what the book will consist of:

Original, or personalized/unique, detailed (yet simple) patterns with a
fresh and original feel for novice/beginning knitters that are adaptable
to small, medium and large sizes.

Photographs of the projects, both the finished project and the project
while it's being worked on.

Tips and tricks for difficult things to master like: turning the heel of
a sock, making thumbs on mittens, a good way to keep track of rows and/or
stitches...etc.

The patterns can be of just about anything; your imagination is the limit:
ponchos, shrugs, scarfs, mittens, bikinis, pillowcases...anything!

The book will also include instructions on purling, casting on, binding
off, etc.

Now for some information on submissions (if you'd like to send pictures of
more than one project, feel free to!):

Right now we are only asking for pictures of projects you would like us to
consider for the book, along with your easy to follow, simple pattern for
the project. Please include the needle size, yarn and guage. If your
project is chosen we will ask you:

To send us the project, which we will send back to you. We will need the
projects to be photographed professionally.

-It doesn't matter if your project is finished or not. If it is already
completed and we like it, we will recreate it ourselves for photographing
if there isn't time for you to do it yourself.

Information on Publication:

Hylas will be publishing the book. We're a small but growing publishing
company in Irvington, New York. I do encourage you to check out the
website for ideas of the types of book we've published in the past.

If your pattern/project is chosen to appear in the book we will give you a
$75 (USD) honorarium and you would receive credit for your
pattern/project. You will be paid the honorarium upon signing (saying
that the project is original, and yours etc).

If you are interested in submitting a pattern/project, go ahead and send
me a photograph or two of your finished (or in progress) project(s) and
your pattern.

Thank you,

-Jessica

Has anyone contacted Jessica? Is anyone else planning on submitting any designs, tips, etc?

I'm so skeptical, because I've been burned before on a pattern.

Right now, I do have a couple of things I could submit-- patterns for baby blankets.

I gifted the blankets, so I would have to knit them again to have pics to submit!

Oh really, if you don't mind please be sure to tell us who the company was to save someone else the trouble. I have heard that from alot of people re; pattern submissions they get sent a letter saying no and then a "version" of their exact pattern will appear in an article.

Mine was for a supposed "local" publication, and it ended up being one person who wanted to get some free patterns.

Did anyone else submit any patterns? I submitted two, and received a response from Jessica that the knitting book will be written by one person.
