The Aztec pantheon was a colorful assembly of powerful warriors, corn gods, sacred jaguars and moon goddesses.

Sometimes it seems like the Aztec deities come the closest to actual man than any of the other deities i;ve read about. The "human part" of the god or goddess lures you in, and then the animal part of the god is able to attack and take what it needs. How different is that from what mankind is today? We lure in an unnsuspecting "partner" and the our "animalistic nature" takes over and we take what we need - be it sex, control in the relationship, money, or several other things. Often times we stay around to establish our dominance, but sometimes we leave our "victim" behind to deal with the aftermath herself; much as a god would have done.

Omnipotence is such a great thing. <img src="/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

I think the Aztecs had more of a totem relationship with animals. They interacted a lot with animals for inspiration and to use them as symbolic of qualities they wished for themselves.

A lot of people work with totem animals but don't think about it. I see a lot of sports mascots as being a modern versions of totems animals.
