John Newton was a famous adoptive father, pastor for 40 years in England and also the hymn writer of the famous hymn "Amazing Grace" In the 1700's Newton penned 21 letters to his adopted daughter Elizabeth Catlett. A man who was a wretched sea captain of slave ships was transformed into a compassionate, loving man of God. He later became a parent with him wife Polly of their 2 orphaned nieces. His lovely letters to Elizabeth can be read in the book "Letters and Reflections to My Adopted Daughters" compiled by Jody Moreen and published by Pleasant Word a division of Wine Press Publishing- 2005.The book is great for any Christian parents.
