Alright, here's how our little twisted game will go.

A phobia, by general definition, is the fear of something fairly specific. I will start with the letter "A" and list a phobia. The next person will name a phobia beginning with the letter "B," with the next person onto "C," and so forth. Your phobia can be informal, such as "Spiders" (for the letter S, of course), but since we are on "A" I shall go for the formal term,

PS--If you use the offical, scientific name, please define the fear with a quick phrase and educate us as to what it is.

A phobia I would hate to have: bibliophobia:

n. hatred of books. bibliophobe, n. person hating books. bibliophobic, a.

Shaun - I couldn't LIVE with that phobia - must have my books!

cyberphobia - fear of computers (I guess this one doesn't apply to any of us!)

Claustrophobia- Fear of confined spaces.

I know of another one for A

A - Agoraphobia - fear of leaving the house

OK Justin, are we doing as many phobias as we can in a letter and then moving on, or 1 word per letter, then go to the next letter?

Because there are LOTS of "A" phobias - we have just begun to touch the tip of the iceburg, or do we move on to "D" now? (Can't think of quite as many of those, but at least a couple)

Michelle, I think this is an ABC game so we should say 1 word per letter, then go to the next letter. Some letters are going to be much harder than others so we'll just have to do the best we can with those.

I'll take "D" Demetia-phobia - fear of losing pieces of your memory or mind. So, next is "E"... <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Entomophobia - fear of insects

Not too many for F, so how about: Frigophobia - Fear of cold or cold things.

G - Gamophobia - Fear of marriage

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia- Fear of long words.

Insectophobia - another word for fear of insects. Some of these letters could get harder after a few times. LOL <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I will swoop in with J, Japanophobia. Does what is says on the tin: a fear of the Japanese.

K - Keraunophobia - fear of thunder & lightning
(it can also be spelled with a "C" - so some people might recognize it better that way)

Not a problem for people posting on here: Logizomechanophobia- Fear of computers.

Melophobia- Fear or hatred of music. (I'd die if I developed this one... literally... my musician spouse would likely kill me.)

Macrophobia- Fear of long waits (This one, on the other hand, seems perfectly reasonable to me).

N - I'm going to list 2 because they are so similar

noctiphobia - fear of the night
nyticphobia - fear of the dark or the night

O - Ochlophobia - fear of crowds or crowded places

How would you even know you had this fear? Wouldn't you have to think about it to figure it out?

OK, Justin - there are no official phobias starting with the letter "Q" I have been all over the web looking!

So I'm going for an unofficial one:

Queenaphobia: fear of female monarchs

Rhytiphobia- Fear of getting wrinkles

Yet another one that makes perfect sense. Although I think my Botoxophobia supersedes it.

Lygophobia- Fear of darkness

"Selenophobia" - fear of the moon

...especially when it is FULL and I am teaching because the students in high school go crazy! :~{

Triskaidekaphobia- Fear of the number 13.

This one must have seen a big rise once the "Friday the 13th" movies started coming out!

Uranophobia - Fear of heaven

How sad!

Verbophobia- Fear of words

Again, how would you know you had it? And once you found out, wouldn't you be doubly scared!?

Wiccaphobia: Fear of witches and witchcraft.

Xenophobia - fear of strangers and foreigners

not to be confused with XenAphobia, which would be fear of the warrior princess; <img src="/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

I did some digging, but couldn't seem to find any that started with Y.... I made a couple up:

Y'allphobia - what Northerners feel about Southerners

Yokelphobia - what city people feel about country people

Yellerbellyphobia - fear of fear itself, in yokelese

Alright Y'ALL here's "Z"

Zelophobia - fear of jealousy (this would be especially prominent among men who are sleeping with other men's wives) <img src="/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Don't worry, I use that word too! It was one of the early southernisms that I picked up when I moved down here (and I moved DOOWWWWN HERE! Upstate NY to Southwest Louisiana). It's mighty handy, and somehow classier than "you guys".

Achluophobia
Fear of darkness.

Bathophobia - Fear of depth. Actually, I have a friend who always had been a little nervous about shadowy large objects in the deep.
