Last year I knit over a dozen scarves to give out at work. It was such fun working with all of those novelty yarns, but after awhile, it did get a bit tedious. This year, I've gotten some patterns from Patternworks for felted flowers that you can wear as brooches/lapel pins. I haven't tried them yet, but if they're fun and easy I'll probably do those as gifts this year. But I'd better get busy! Sounds like the perfect excuse to knit all weekend, huh?!?!
SO what are the rest of you working on?

I am going to have to get out my creative mind and make something for baby. I have a new Granddaughter and I must have her in one of a kind sweaters and hats <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> and then after I get done if I have time, maybe some adult hats.

I am super ROBO new to knitting, and I'm tackling a Santa Hat! I've read over a few patterns (even tried to follow the Lion Brand one, and came out with a lopsided boat sail instead of a hat!), and I'm over 1/2 done on this fourth attempt!
I started on circulars for the fluffy white band, and moved to larger sized dpns for the red chenille portion.
And I don't even know HOW to use dpns!!! Well, once the hat is done, I can't say that anymore ;^)
I sure wish I knew someone in my town that could help me learn how to read patterns, and also help me apply the written word to actual stitches on needles . . . *sigh* . . . oh well. It's a good thing I'm dang smart!
When I have an FO, I'll post a picture.

Well, we're always willing to help you interpret pattern instructions (if we can figure out what they mean!), so don't be afraid to ask for help here. Not quite as good as having someone at your elbow, but we'll do our best.
Good luck on that Santa hat! Becky

I'm having a FUN time knitting a shawl for a Christmas party! I'm using a shiny golden polyester, with a ruby string for weight. I have to admit, I am loving the way that it is turning out! Happy Holidays to ALL! Judi

I'm doing iPod covers. Everyone I know seems to have acquired iPods, and apparently the hip accessory is an iPod cover. They take about 20 seconds to knit (well, not quite, but between 1/2 hour and 45 minutes) and I can make a few per person and use them as stocking stuffers. I've also found a few specialty gift stores where I can consign these, the fancy schmancy ones sell them for $10, and I think if they were in major metro areas, it'd be even more! Not bad for hardly any time, effort, or materials!

You are so right about that, just before we moved I crocheted 6 of them for a friend of my husbands. I made mine out of the brightly colored nylon string.

I finished my Santa Hat. It looks darn good, I must say, haha. I still need to do the white pompom on top, and the circumference is a tad too big (okay, alot big, but luckily The Mike (DH) has a big head!!)
Now I gotta get a pic of it up on my WEBSHOTS album.
For Christmas presents, I am making:
A scarf for my cleaning lady Beanie hats for the two guys The Mike works with (to match the one I made him last week) a baby blanket for The Mike's new niece
All easy things made out of my not high-end stash, so if they get neglected or even *gasp* abused, it won't hurt my fiber-loving heart!

Oh, and I forgot to add that I'm also knitting some 'soap holders' for some fancy soaps I bought. Probably giving those to female in-laws . . . we'll see.

Hey -- I'm new to this wonderful forum, so I'm late to this discussion, but I would like to share what I knit for the holidays, since it was my return to knitting after 10 years and I actually FINISHED some stuff this time!!!
I did 10 scarves for family and friends, including 5 for my book group gals -- they were a huge hit at our annual pre-holiday weekend retreat.
I couldn't believe how touched and thrilled people were with my simple attempts. Very rewarding, I must say!
Then I did a small (36" x 36") throw for my mother-in-law (beloved, not the other kind), a shawl, and now I'm trying to do baby stuff for a new granddaughter. I'm 1/3 through the S&B Big Bad Baby Blanket - it's looking GREAT - and am struggling with S&B Nation bunny hat... I'm in over my little beginning knitter head on this one...
Anyway -- thanks for all your ideas. I'm keeping a knitting journal and will make note for next Christmas!
Cheers!
