Hi there. I'm new to this site. For Bonnie, great link to the Forbes insurance needs calculator. Most of middle America is much underinsured. Especially single moms trying raise a family on limited income. Especially when they might not be in the best of health themselves. One company you might want to look at and feature is U. S. Financial Life (A+ rated)and owned by the giant AXA Financial. This company takes people that other companies won't, making 'common sense' decisions. In other words, if your doctor says you're OK, they probably will, too. I know of a lady pharmacist in our town with schizophrenia who just purchased $750K of life insurance. She's single with a child and really needed it, but most companies turned her down. They also take people who only occasionally smoke as non-smokers, cutting the typical costs in half.

Hi Pete ~ Welcome to the site and thanks for the feedback.

I will have to check into U.S. Financial Life and feature them in my Insurance Companies at a glance series.

I appreciate the tip knowing that someone with Schizophrenia was not turned down.

I do believe that what you stated about much of middle America is underinsured.

I never know what to put down for smoking since I quit 9 years ago, but did smoke for about 10 years or more.

U.S. Financial is a great company Bonnie. When our underwriting department doesn't think it is wise to insure an individual, we work with U.S. Financial, and sometimes they will insure the individual. We go that route first, before we apply for our guaranteed issue policy, which is higher due to the individuals health.
