Hi everybody. I wanted to see how and what drives people to believe that the bible is the word of God.
What reason do we have to accept it as the authentic source of God Allmighty's wisdom.

If a book has been changed so many times can we still claim for it to be the word of God..

Please let us have a civilized descussion as this is not meant to insult anyone. I am sure we can debate in ways which are better without feeling the need to insult or get aggrevated with each other as I know this is a touchy-feely subject lol

One of the things that always impresses me is the Roman historians that support The Bible. For example, in The Antiquities of the Jews, book 18, chapter 3, paragraph 3 the famous historian Flavius Josephus writes:

Now, there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man, for he was a doer of wonderful worksa teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews, and many of the Gentiles. He was [the] Christ; and when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him, for he appeared to them alive again the third day, as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him; and the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct at this day.

Thank you for replying my friend.
A lovely piece of writing. But it does not answer the question.
Dont mis-understand me. I am not a Jesus hater. In fact I love Jesus. In many of my posts when the name of a prophet is mentioned I write in brackets (PBUH) abreviated for "Peace Be Upon Him".
This is customary for anyone in my culture who mentions the name of any prophet bceause we have such respect and gratitude for their teachings. We honour their names as we know that God Allmighty has raised them as the best example of mankind for mankind to witness and take lesson from.

However... I still dont believe there is anything in the bible that tells me JEsus (PBUH) actually died on the cross let alone rise on the 3rd day.
Every quote from Jesus' lips (PBUH) after the incident on the cross confirms that he was not spirit. It confirms he did not die.
They gave him food to eat, a spirit has no need to eat
He (PBUH) begged the desciples in the upper room to touch his hands and hair because he was not spirit HE WAS FLESH!!!

So lets get down to answering the question but not with peoples opinions or quotes from books that hold no weight to the subject!

WHAT MAKES THE BIBLE AUTHENTIC?? WHY SHOULD WE BELIEVE ITS THE WORD OF GOD??

After the third day he rose from the dead, in body not spirit. He was a man, He showed Thomas the marks on his hands and in his side that showed he had been on the cross.

John 20:25-27

They (the diciples) told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he replied, "I (Thomas) won't believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side." 26 Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. He (Jesus)said "Peace be with you." 27 Then he said to Thomas,"Put your finger here and see my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don't be faithless any longer. Believe!"

Out of curiousity you mentioned your culture, which would that be?

Just to be clear... He died on the cross.... It is a horrible way to be executed. No one could survive it.

They put steaks through his hands and feet, They broke his legs so his body would bleed inside, When the guard pierced his side... he bled water. Then he was put into a grave There is no way anyone would have survived all that without medical treatment.

The point of him coming to earth was to die, beat death by raising up from it, in human body and perfect spirit as one. We cannot fathom what our bodies will be after the second coming, but it will be truly amazing, remember we only use 10% of our brain. Can you imagine what it'll be like when we get to use 100%.

Once again however you are missing the point. I didnt ask you whether Christ (Peace and blessing of the allmighty be upon him) died on the cross.
I had asked what makes the bible the word of God? What makes it authentic? read the subject title..
Telling me that Christ (PBUH) died on the cross does not confirm the authenticity in the bible.
I can give you dozens of examples that Jesus (PBUH) did not die on the cross including the fact that his legs were not broken either. (Exodus 12:46, John 19:36)

Lets not go into that one now.
For the record, I am a Turkish Muslim living in Britain. (In reference to you asking me what my culture is)

Peace be upon you all

I am surprised that after 6 months this post is still here.

You need not worry why im not asking my priest these questions.
It does not matter if I know the answer or not.

The question is very simple. It doesnt matter if the bible says Jesus died, or Moses did this or that. I am a firm believer in the prophets of the bible...

BUUUUT the question is in the topic subject...
How do you know the bible is authentic?...

Nobody can do that - with any religions text.
