Hi everyone-
Ive just heard so much in the news about how bad the flus gonna be and was wondering if anyone had any products they like to help not get sick! Ive heard of Vitamin C or nose sprays. I saw a lot of new products at CostCo like this one herbal thing called TriMune, has anyone tried anything like that?
Thanks!

I'm a big fan of Airborne - the supplement developed by a teacher. I just bought a jumbo pack at Costco today.

Hey!
My favorite herbs for staving off a cold or flu are
1. echinacea in tincture form which I take at the first signs of any sickness - two dropperfuls about 3 times a day.
2. Pau d'arco which I take as a tea 3 times a day
3. Licorice root which I take as a tea 3 times a day
Garlic pills would be a good choice as well, since they'll help your immune system build up to dismantle the virus' hold.
Hope this helps! Anyone else?
green blessings,
Leah

Hello, I take echinacea in pill form whenever I start to feel cold or flu coming on. If my co-workers are sniffing and coughing I also take a few pills. It has worked well for the past two years for me.

I take this wonderful product called Genesis. It is a nutritional supplement drink and is full of antioxidants and really builds the immune system. Check it out at www.symmetrydirect.com/phadley.Asia

Irish penicillin: boiling water, honey, clove, lemon, whiskey. Mix it all up and quaff it down. It'll set you right in no time.

I have to agree with BellaDeb, I am a huge fan of Airborne. The tabs you dissolve in water are not bad, but I prefer the gummy lozenges. Any time one of us in the family is sick the other 3 take Airborne. I would say it has worked 95% of the time. Much better than taking the day off work to watch sick kids, and much cheaper too!

The thing about flu shots is that the shot only vaccinates against 3 specific strains of the flu at one time (I actually have an article about it on the asthma site... Asthma & the Flu ) The government and the CDC look ahead and try to determine which 3 strains of the flu are most likely to hit the US in a given year, and then manufacturers produce the vaccine according to those specifics. Usually they are correct. This year they missed! The major flu that hit most of the US was not one of the ones that was covered by the vaccine. As far as people "getting" the flu from the vaccine, this usually doesn't happen, although they can feel somewhat rotten for a day or so; but that is common with most vaccines. The article has lots more info on side effects and dangers, and also has the links to the official sites on the flu vaccine.

Oh, Mary Ellen! My Granny had a similar recipe, just leave out the water and clove! LOL
I actually got in trouble in HS once because I quaffed down a TBsp of her remedy after coming in from a date - and my Dad thought I'd been out drinking! Luckily we were yelling so loudly it woke my Mom and she came and rescued me.
Because other than Granny's "remedy" I never had any alcohol until I left for college (then we won't talk about it!)
My husband still swears by the recipe today, except he'll use vodka if his throat is really gunked up!

Well, try the hot whiskey with the lemon, honey, cloves, and the boiling water. It works amazingly well. Shortly after I met my husband I came down with a killer flu. He made me two of those drinks, they knocked me out, and I woke up the next a.m. cured. It was amazing to me because I was totally wrecked with the flu the night before. I thought I wouldn't be able to go to work even, but I felt so fine in the morning, all traces of the flu were gone. It was a bad one, too. We've been playing doctor ever since. (With a license! lol)

Hey - I was raised on that hot toddy for fever, as we called it - hot water, lemon juice, honey and whiskey ...
