I am working on a baby blanket. I am stuck on this row. It looks like this: (K8, K3tog, yo; insert left needle under the strand between last st worked and next st, K into the back of this strand - M1 made; K1, M1, yo, K3tog tbl, K7)twice, K4 I know how to do the entire row except for making M1. Does this make sense to anyone?

You're increasing-- making one stitch inbetween the last stitch worked and the new one you are about to work.

I personally prefer to use the M1 in the stitch below method.
