I am on the Novella birth control pill I've been on it for 12yrs and I've been married for 4 yrs I have low to no sex drive I know the pill causes some of this but does anyone have any suggestions that will help? I have been considering getting off of the pill for a while and using condoms to see if that would make a difference. Any thing else I could try or do to help in this matter? Thanks!! I'm not totally ready to go and get fixed just yet I'm only 30 but as of right now NO KIDS!!!

I felt that way too and I was on Ortho, I talked to my doctor and he suggested switching pill types...I did that, well the drive increased, but also the effectiveness wasnt there and I am now the mother of twin boys age 2, and well...expecting my 3rd. My suggestion is go on the depo...I was on that before I was married and I loved it, and I had a huge drive...and it is so easy. I will get on that after my daughter is born, or maybe it will be time for the tubes to be tied...LOL

Before switching to condoms (very messy, and a tendency to want to "skip" them when you're hot and heavy- that's how I had my daughter <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> )talk to you GYN. Twelve years in medical terms is 2 complete turnovers of pharmaceuticals. Medicine basically does a complete change every 5 years (rule of thumb) which is why pharmacists, nurses, and Dr.s have to go back for re-evaluations every so often, to be updated on what has come out!

There are so many more options now! The patch, low dose pills, the ring, injections, a pill which reduces your eriod to 4 times a year. Definitely go discuss options.

In micribiology our instructor showed us the basic flaw with condoms. He bought 3 new packs, had 3 differnt student open them and pick out 5 condoms from each pack.

He then filled each condoom (15) with red tinted water and immersed them (held by a test tube rack) in a fish tank.

We could easily see a thin red trickle coming from 4 of the condoms. Admittedly this was 10 yrs ago, and I am sure the quality control has vastly improved with the threat of AIDS and Hepatitis, but still, it gives you something to think about.

Hey everyone!

rmatt, I have a few suggestions for you. Have you ever thought of using herbal contraceptives? This method requires you to really get in touch with your body and your cycle in particular - it's a method though that many woman live by and rely on totally.

My favorite most trusted herbal contraceptive is wild carrot seed and that is the one that I would really recommend finding out more about.

Here are some great websites to peruse:

I just can't say I put enough trust into wild carrot seeds to trust them.

I use natural fertility monitoring (basal temp, tracking changes in breast tissue and cervical mucus, etc.) and use a sort of rhythm method, condoms when I'm fertile or in the "grey area" and nothing when I'm not fertile. It's worked for me without a hitch for a couple of years now.

Admittedly, I'm in a long-term relationship, and while we're not totally ready to have kids right now, it would be acceptable if it happened. Unlike my late teens/early twenties, when I was much stricter because I was NOT ready for a kid.

rmatt,

Women experiencing low sex drive can often find natural and safe alternatives to address their problem through the use of herbs like Kola Nut and Ginkgo Biloba.

These herbs have aphrodisiacs properties and help by increasing the libido. They also help by making the body more active and energized - few people are interested in sex when they are tired and lack energy.

Also, there are vitamins - such as B Vitamins that are quite helpful for people with low sex. The body uses Vitamin B to synthesize sex hormones which is also important in low sex drive.

My wife has tried various pills and has had a variety of side-effects (e.g. migraines, acne, decreased sex drive). We're currently researching natural birth control methods:
