First - I love how it's looking - that's going to be an heirloom when it's finished.

Personally - I'd simply change the pattern to make it work.

Ripping out the wrong work would take a lot of time - and you would still see where you had removed stitches (on an aside here: an example of this is the Bayeux Tapestry, where, over 1000 years later, you can still see where mistakes were removed and then re-stitched!) when you had re-stitched the Afghan.

Also, you've done considerable work. If you'd only done one motif, then I'd recommend removing stitches.

At the stage you are at, changing the pattern is the most practical solution.

Please do post a picture of the finished Afghan when you're done - as well as where you got the pattern from. It's a real cutie!

Megan

That photo is from the front of the kit. I purchased it at Hobby Lobby. Since then I have purchased several more things to do...I need to quit buying and start doing! Not enough hours in the day!

Nonsense! Building Stash is the prime requirement of all obses... er.. keen ... embroiderers.

Sometimes I think that it's more the joy of acquisition of pretties rather than the doing them that is more enjoyable.

**Looks at own stash** I will get to some more of it. Promise.

If you figure out a SOLUTION to having all kinds of projects started and need to get going to finish them, PLEASE pass on the trick! I can't keep up with my ideas with finished projects! <img src="/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

LOL, I am the QUEEN of starting and not finishing things. I have decided this summer to finish things and not start anything new until I finish all the unfinished things.

Project #1: We moved here almost 3 yrs ago and I had to texture one of the walls in my bedroom the previous owners had repaired, but not textured or painted. So, I had finished all of the painting except that wall. This spring I got that wall textured and painted. So I lacked the trim. I had to rip up all the trim that was on top of the carpet, pull the carpet back, kilz the baseboards (which were probably last painted in the 40's and it was a blue color) then paint the baseboards while carefully not getting paint on the wood floors I plan to refinish. That is a whole different project! I finished the baseboards and now lack the back of the door. The hardware on the door has tons of paint on it and is copper underneath and so I plan to strip that at a later date.

Project #2: I am stripping an outside door that has tons of paint on it. Underneath all the paint it is a lovely shade of wood. The paint had an alligator look to it and was starting to chip and come off.

Project #3: I have one more window to unstick (they painted all the windows shut). I have to pull the trim off and pull the windows out and repair the sash cords and paint the trim back.

In the evening is when I do my needlework. I started the baby afgan because my daughter is pregnant so I quit my current project to do that. The project I was working on was a puppy on a quilt and I planned to make it into a pillow to go on the bed in our guest room. I also have a huge wall hanging that has cross stitched squares and I want to change the material color as it is faded and doesn't match the purple color I painted our grandaughters bedroom. We babysit every day so that has really cut into my project time! She is 15 mths so getting dinner on the table and the house picked up is a chore!

I am sure I have other projects to list but I am now tired from thinking of all that stuff I could be doing!!

LOL! I have a stack of UFO's to finish - including an inherited one from 1945!. I have a needlepoint of the Aussie picture "Bailed Up" that my dad bought me in 1985 - and it's still only 1/3 done (it's very large). Dad is now passed on - as is my Aunt who took it from me intending to finish it. One of these days I have to get it out and get it done.

On the other hand - I also have an inherited UFO. In 1945, my Grandmother started to do a cutwork afternoon tea cloth. She went into labor with my Aunt, and it was put aside. It's still neatly wrapped in tissue paper - and nary a thing done to it since December 1945 (only 3 motifs have been done).

My mum also has a UFO from the '60's that she's never finished - and I've a few more inherited from Grandma from the 60's and 70's when her eyesight got so bad she couldn't embroider to her standards any more (so she taught me instead).

Hmmmm - definately have to get round to finishing them!! But it's good to know that my UFO tendencies seem to be inherited!

I am getting closer to being finished with my grandbaby's afgan. I am planning to put his name and birth date on it but am waiting on that part until he is here and we are sure that he is a he after all LOL! I keep telling my daughter just because they said it was a boy doesn't necessarily mean that it is a boy. Sonogram readers can be wrong every now and again! I plan to also add stitched by gramma or something to that effect. I am now pondering what to finish or maybe starting something new next LOL!

Connie, I'm glad you've managed to solve the problem. Keep us posted as your new grandbaby (whatever the sex) arrives! Please do post a picture of the finished afghan - I know that we'd all love to see it.

Thanks Megan! My grandaughter that I babysit (16 mts) loves the afgan. I have 2 that I had purchased on clearance just because they were cheap and so I am planning to make her an afgan. Probably a different pattern though! Connie
