The headline says it all. Gary king is part of whats wrong with bowling. The articles he writes are worthless and doing nothing to promote the sport. League bowling is in enough of a decline and with the USBC doing their own stupid things, and then to have people like Gary going around talking like this, bowling may never get back up.

I'll take the job <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> What's so messed up is that several people are leaving because scoring is too easy, but when USBC tries to do something to control it, people go ballistic. They want to have their cake and eat it too. USBC proposals don't bother me because my stuff is drilled within specs anyway.

You think the new proposals won't affect you because you're current equipment is drilled withing specs? EVERYONE will be effected. The proposals will raise prices across the board. It will also put technology on a backward track. If they have their way, we will be throwing rubber balls on laquer lanes again soon. And why? Because way back in the day the current president of the USBC thought he was hot stuff and now he is not so good. They need to look at real problems. They should put out a mandate that to get certified there is a standard shot. There also should be heavier pins. We need the old PBA gold pins or maybe a 4lb pin. But the problem with that is the older pinsetters tend to break faster with heavy pins. Those are the best 2 options that will never see the light of day. Nothing will change though. If the USBC gets their way Friday then another sanctioning body will come out to promote scoring. Im in favor of an international sanctioning body and make the same rules across the globe.

when you day raise prices, do you mean because of having to have the USBC logo on it? I think that is stupid and pointless. heavier pins would definately work. But the oil pattern is what needs to be looked at. When you have a ten board arrow to strike on, of course scores are going to be huge. Rubber balls and lacquer lanes are going too far though. Are you a member of bowl.com or ballreviews.com? If so, what are your screen names?

Yes I am on ballreviews: heatcell9.

Prices already went up just after Bowl Expo. Engraving a 2in dia. USBC logo will add $10-$20 to the base cost of each ball. The equates to about $20-$50 extra to the bowler. Are prices not high enough? There is a place here in Tampa that is about $8 a game. When I started bowling about 1990( I was 8) a league rate open play game was $.75 and regular open was $2.00. Now My league rate is $1.90 and regualr open is $3.75. I have watched the decline of bowling and it is more related to price than scoring. Alot of bowlers aren't leaving bowling because they are scoring too much. Maybe we are just in a replacement cycle. Over time participation will go back up. Unfortunatly with the huge division currently in bowling with USBC versus everyone else, I don't see it coming back together soon. Tomorrow will seal the fate of sanctioned bowling. If the proposals pass Dec 31, 2005 will be the last day of current bowling. Most of the ball companies are flooding the market before the start of the fall season knowing that they may not have the christmas season and the start of short season leagues in Jan. I know of a couple leagues that will not be sanctioned if the proposals pass. Im sure there are alot more that I have not heard about yet. The USBC is bad for bowling.

Have you read the new article. Thsi guy needs to quit bowling and go write about cross dressing. Complaining about someone throwing his ball? He didnt even see the person do it. He just saw it come out of the ball return. It could have been stuck in the back. I have had ball stick before. Especially when you are the anchor bowler. I have been working on balls while bowling and after throwing a ball taking a different one into the shop, came back and the ball was still in the back. It happened last week when I drilled my GP2. To finish the game I threw my arsenal aggressive then took the GP2 to the shop and changed the grips. Was probably in there 15-20 mins and when I came back to the lane the arsenal was just cominig back.

As far as "high average" bowlers putting up as many balls as they want and letting others only put up one: never seen that as a problem. My scratch league(low average in the league 196, most over 210) no one puts up more than 2. If we need a spare ball it is in one of the sitting area chairs while we sit behind the "pit" area with tables and chairs. I don't think I have seen more than 8 balls on the return at any time in the whole league. Even in a 5man league that I watched over the spring I never saw anyone complaing about how many balls were on the return.

Too bad Mr. King is too much of a pussy to address me. I have sent him emails and started this thread with no response from him.

Dang man. Today: League rate - 2.25. Open rate - 2.60. I need to take some time to look at some of his articles. I knew it would raise the price, I just didn't know that much. I work at a bowling alley man. I know all about balls getting stuck in the back. But yeah, USBC is going to kill bowling. If it goes back to like it was in the 70's, it will be about as popular 52 card pickup. BTW, I am a member of ballreviews.com too :CMDBowlers.

The usbc got some sense and reduced all their proposals. the only 2 left are tecting partcle hardness and usbc(star) in front of the serial number. still dumb but better than the big logo.

yeah, I read that on bowl.com. They finally admitted that weight holes and cg really don't matter that much. I read a few of Gary king's articles. Some of it is decent, but some are pretty stupid. I didn't read the first one you were talking about (something about how the guy threw his ball or something). The first one I found was talking about Lind's shoes. Can you post a link to the one you were talking about?

First off, for an editor, he has poor gramatical skills. Jumping to conclusions like that is a lot of what is wrong with the world today. Is that all he does is talk bad about bowling? If so, he shouldn't be the editor. All he is doing is complaining about this or that or something. I wonder if he ever asked the guy if he actually threw it. Otherwise, he has no right to accuse him of such. I'm starting to see the point in your subject line. Pitiful.
