I'm a very new knitter, and can't seem to gt started. I need help!!!! Bought a book "Taught Myself Knitting." And when I knit the rows as the instructions say, I have the bumps on both sides. Or sometimes I get the V's on one row the when I turn it I get the bumps. Please Help. I am taking the right needle and going in the front to the back so that the needle is behind the left needle. what am I doing wrong?

Welcome Doghowse. I don't think you're doing anything wrong. If you're doing the same stitch on both sides (the knit stitch) you're going to end up with an overall bumpy ridged pattern. It's called garter stitch. Both sides will look the same. That won't change until you learn the purl stitch. Just keep going with the book, and you'll get there. I've never seen this book, myself. Maybe some others can chime in here and give you some tips on some other books, as well. Here's a good website, also.

Thanks for the info very helpful. I see what your saying now, as I looked through the book more closely I saw the different stiches. Thanks and wish me luck.

Thank You , I miss all of you also I am not back yet, still using my sisters computer. We will get the truck loaded from storage this Friday and will be able to unload the truck on Saturday and the internet should be connected by Monday but it will take me about 1 week to get semi settled.
