I was waiting til closer to the date to post this info on the Astronomy forum, but since it is here...I have received several e-mails regarding Mars. 1)I received has an awesome picture of a pulsating star in the sky. That is the info about Mars in August. 2) However...On October 31, Mars will rise at sunset, and at midnight be at zenith (directly overhead). The new moon is the night of Nov. 1, which means Halloween night will be nice and dark for stargazing. Could this be the Great Pumpkin? <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

The info regarding Mars in August with the beautiful picture had no link I could trace it to; it was sent to me by a friend. In my excitement about the Great Pumpkin, I forgot to mention that the e-mail circulating re: Mars in August was confirmed to be 2 years old. Mars will still be lookin good, but Halloween night is supposed to be the best night for viewing. And unless you are viewing with a pretty good sized telescope, it will still just be a red point of light in the sky, even with binocs, just brighter than usual. And it does lend a certain magic to a very magical time of the year...
