I would like to take our club library to the next level; before I took over, the card jackets were made out of manila folders and taped into the books.!! Index cards became book cards. I am ready to make the leap to real library supplies. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would like to order some, nowhere in town sells this stuff. Thanks for any suggestions. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Hi, there are some simple supplies that you can purchase to make your informal library look much more professional. Three major companies are Brodart, Highsmith, and Demco. This is a great time to shop for supplies. Many companies are having sales.

Are you planning on trying to automate the library?

No, and hardly any ever checks anything out! But I am having fun being the librarian and want to get real book cards and jackets. I bought a new sign, and have the best time looking for new books for the Children's Astronomy Library. I love books and have been a bookworm all my life, and loved working in the library as a student and then parent volunteer. Thank you for your suggestions.

What age ranges are you looking for in books?

Sorry for not noticing your question much sooner! I like finding books for the jr. library (kids), and for the adults, I will pick up whatever grabs me. The books donated to the club library are old, dusty and obsolete! In the last couple of years I have procured (bought) Galileo's Daughter, The Planets (both by Dava Sobel), Interstellar Matters by Gerritt Verschuur. He was a guest speaker and we really like him. These are new, no dust! The Magic School Bus Lost In The Solar System I recently found on Amazon.com. The Glow In The Dark Night Sky Book by Clint Hatchett is a fun, beautiful book. Clint ran the planetarium here for several years. We have members in their 70's to 80's, all the way down to elementary school children.
