When you go on cruises, where do you like your cabin to be? Down low, so you get little motion? Up high, to be near all of the restaurants? Up front, to watch the waves? In the center (front to back), to be at the fulcrum as the ship moves?

I personally like low and center

Do you get an outside cabin so that you can have a big picture window? We enjoy center and high. For the Alaskan cruise I recommend splurging and getting a cabin with a balcony.

Yes I personally LOVE LOVE windows. My home office is by a window and I really love having it right there. Whenever I travel I try to choose locations that have great views. I take a ton of photos when I travel so having the view really makes a difference to me.

I've only been to Alaska once, several years ago. It wasn't on a cruise though - we rented a car and drove all around, visiting with a friend. I *loved* it, the mountains are gorgeous.

I just had someone recommend high to me because the low floors got hot from the engines. Has anyone ever had that happen to them?

No, Lisa. I have not heard that. We like to be high with an outside cabin mid deck.

I asked around on other forums and was told that maybe in the old days ships would get hot down there, but in modern times all rooms have AC and you can make them as hot or cold as you wish

Good point - the entire ship has air conditioning; in fact, in some places it is downright cold. Every day on our last cruise I would go to the library. Not only did they have internet connections there but they had trivia games. I would pick up a game each day and the group would play the game. Then on the back of the new game sheet the next day, the answers for the previous day would be posted. We always had fun with that.

Ooooo that sounds like a lot of fun! I love trivia. Google almost makes trivia too easy though - you can instantly find the answer for any question

We played the old fashioned way = by collaborating over breakfast and/or lunch with a pencil.
