I didn't see any threads around so I thought I would start one about our careers. I work in the DC area for a Marketing company. We have a lot of different clients...anything from movies to technology. So, I'll remember to fill you in on any juicy gossip I might come across

What about everyone else? What do you do? Want to do? Etc

Have you ever thought about starting your own business? My friend did and she got lots of help from the people at The Women's Opportunities Resource Center of Greater Philadelphia. Check out their site at http://www.worc-pa.org/ to see whether they can get you started too.

Hi - and great thread, Aime!

I have just joined, my name is Leigh St John and I am based on the Gold Coast in Australia.

I am a professional MC and Host, Facilitator, Keynote Speaker and Author.

My passion and the core of my businesses is the building of confidence and the "Realization of Potential".

For example, one of the programs I conduct is a workshop: "Speak with Confidence - Public Speaking for people who don't like to speak in public!" While I do focus on the practical elements of being able to speak in public, the real core of the workshop is the development of confidence.

I was watching a DVD last night and there was a statement in the movie that sums it up:

"Be the woman you want to be - Discover the woman you really are!"

That's what I do - assist people to develop their confidence to be who they want to be and to discover who they really are - and be proud of who they are!

Additionally, I have worked in the media and in management training with a number of "who's who" type companies.

My current book (that I am hoping to have finished by the end of next week) is entitled, "Discovering Your Passion by Asking the Right Questions". Actually, I had better have it finished then as I have a keynote and book launch at the end of April! Nothing like a little pressure! :-))

It will be available as a paperback and also as a free download.

Thanks for starting this thread and I am looking forward to reading everyone's posts.

Wishing you a truly magical day!

Kindest regards and looking forward to hearing more on this list...

Leigh

Hi! I am a business owner and webmaster of FavoriteTraditions.com. Hope you will stop by for a visit. I am also working on a new site relating to cooking techniques. I work at home which is great since I am around for my two high school age children.

Hi, everyone,

This is indeed a great thread, Aime--good job! So what juicy gossip have you heard lately?

That link to the resource site to help people start their own businesses is very nice, Marigold. Thank you for sharing it with us. It has some helpful information.

Leigh, you're quite the Renaissance woman! And your site is very professional-looking. I wish you were stateside or I was in Australia, but I'll suggest your presentations to a good friend of mine there. Will your book be available in hardcover or as an ebook?

And Chloe, your site is lovely and shows a tremendous amount of research. Did you do all that yourself? I was looking to see if you have anything about spring rituals in particular as I'm doing research myself for a project right now.

I hope you'll all come back and keep us updated on your progress, too. It's so exciting to see women accomplishing so much.

I am a contract recruiter and have my own sewing business. Any one else out there?

That's an interesting combination, Yippee! Is the recruiting for employment? And what kind of sewing do you do?

I'll bet there are a lot more of us out there who combine our interests and skills into two or more occupations. Is one what you do for "a living" and the other what you do because you love it?

Hey, Yippee,

I'm a professional editor and story analyst specializing in fiction, which mostly means I help writers improve their technique so they can get published. I also have written a small self-help book and workbook, and I worked as a journalist for years. I was fortunate enough to be able to quit my "day job" last year and go full-time with my own business, and I'm really loving it. Sounds like you're doing the same.

If anyone wants to talk about living your dream, join in, whether you're already doing it or hoping to someday. It's sometimes a long road to get there, but it's worth the effort.

I'm a staff writer, I write articles for the promotion of the website. I carry on link exchange campaigns, so, I'm a link exchange manager. I'm also running a web log, so, I'm a blogger. In a word, my position combines several activities. At times, especially during update or re-design periods, I write content for the website.

By the by, I'd like to communicate with Barbara Sloan closer. It is great to meet a professional editor here. Perhaps, you can give me some piece of advice as to how to constantly improve my writing and editing skills. Recently, I have found a great tool, which has virtually became my personal editor, called StyleWriter. What do you think about it?
