Do you have a favorite era/period of history? I was trying to think of mine the other day. I am best informed about 20th Century European history, but I don't know if I would call it my favorite. What's yours?

Mine is the Medieval period. I cannot explain why. There is something about it that really appeals to me.

I always liked the costumes in that period...you can't tell me that it wouldn't be fun to dress up in a hoop skirt once!

I'm also a fan of Japanese history.

Actually hoop skirts are really more Renaissance than Medieval, they are also very Victorian.

I once wore a hoop skirt into a walmart. A friend of mine and I were trying to make a skirt to go over the hoops and could not figure out how many yards we needed without the fabric in front of us. so we both wore the hoop skirts into the store to try out the fabrics ourselves.

Oh ya, my favorite historical period.

Though I am the reanaissance editor, my favorite period is actually right at the end of the nineteenth century and beginning of the twentieth. Victorianism is ending but modern technology has not become so incredibly intrusive.

It is the period of Art Nuveau and better fitting clothing. The salons in Paris were full of creative young people and New York City working girls could take the trolley to Coney Island. Imperial Russia held beautiful parties in St. Petersburg, and California was finally becoming a little less a lawless frontier.

A very interesting period in my opinion.

I agree, that's a fascinating period. I actually recently took a course in American art history and they were talking about the artistic transitions in Europe at that time and how they were impacting American artists.

My major is Ancient History (Babylonia, Assyria, etc.), but if I had to pick a favorite historical period it would be classical history. Caesars and the Olympics... Cleopatra and Marc Antony... it's completely captivating. I especially love ancient warfare. I know it's not especially girlie, but I can't help it. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I really enjoy the Middle Ages as well.

My favorite period to study is World War II 1937-1945

There are just so many aspects of this event to study. There are endless angles to approach it from. So many tragedies and so many amazing stories of survival and heroism. It never ceases to captivate me.

After reading the Clan of the Cave Bear series, by Jean Auel, I have to say that I am MOST FASCINATED with prehistory and how early man survived long ago.
