I am getting psyched about the solstice and want to share how I spend it. Stonehedge is a project started several years ago. On solstice and equinox we head to my place in the woods. In the meadow, from the center point, we mark the sunrise spot. I have two friends stand a distance apart, with the sun rising exactly between them. I mark the spots and planted trees. We hang out all day, then mark the sunset. So on the equinox and solstice the sun rises and sets between the trees. The weather does not always cooperate, hopefully this project will not drag on for years and years.

Sounds great, firefly - as for your weather, my best friend and high priestess would say, "You're a witch - fix it!"

Our handfasting was February 1st, 2003. At 5:00 p.m. it was 70 degrees!

Anytime you work with trees, it's a slow project and takes a few years.

What sort of tree species are you planting?

Temporarily I have planted privet. The meadow is sandy soil and privet and yaupon grow wild. Yaupon is native and can be trained into shapes if you start when they are little. Plus, the birds love the berries; I have some fun pictures of the cedar waxwings in January hanging upside down eating yaupon berries. The yaupon (hopefully) can be trained in different shapes depending on what time of the year it is; Ostara (vernal equinox),Midsummer (summer solstice), Mabon (autumnal equinox), Yule (winter solstice). We also have a star gaze while we're there.
