I just read the article on sleep disorders and the "old hag". It gave me a chill. I remember something very simular to that happening to me just before I left for the Navy. Only I didn't hear a voice, and the figure I saw was dark not white. I was sleeping on the couch at my mothers house, only I hadn't quite fallen asleep yet when I heard footsteps and the wooden floor creaking. I though it was my brother up and walking around so I looked into the dinning room but there was no one there. Then I heard someone bump in to the coffee table where I had laid my keys and some change from my pockets, I heard the keys and change fall. Still I couldn't see anything. Suddenly there was pressure like a heavy hand on my thigh then another on my chest. This time there was a fuzzy dark figure standing over me. I tried to scream, I could barely hear my own voice and I couldn't move. I have had nightmares my whole life and know several tricks for coming out of them. I have also learned plenty of lucid dreaming tricks just for situations where I felt too afraid. I knew if I could wiggle my toes I would wake up. But that didn't work. Instead the pressure on my thigh lifted and I felt a hand being placed over my face. My toes stopped moving and though I am sure I had been awake because I was still fighting and screaming suddenly I couldn't help but fall asleep. The next morning I remembered everything. I have never forgotten it. But when I asked my mother and brother, neither of them heard a sound. Can this be chalked up to either sleep paraylisis or the "hag" expriance? Or was it something different all together?

Hi Trici

It doesn't sound like you were dreaming to me, rather that you had a visitation, whether it was the 'old hag' Parthena writes of, or another type of being it is hard to say- it didn't sound all that pleasant from your description.

For anyone who feels fearful about going to sleep, I would suggest sleeping with a good sized piece of black tourmaline in your hand or under the pillow. It is a powerfully protective stone and should reassure you.

Thanks for your input, Lauren!

Trici - I'm not a scientist, but my opinion on sleep paralysis is that if it rarely occurs, it's probably a hagging. If it occurs frequently, it's probably a sleep disorder. Your dream could also have been a simple nightmare.

Not everyone sees a white figure or has pressure in the same place during a hagging. Can you relate the dream and experience to what's going on in waking life? Try looking up the key symbols:

Legs

Feet

Intruder

Let me know what you think.

It was scary, and I can see where the symbols may apply to the situation at the time. My dreams have always been very vivid so I took quite an intrest in lucid dreaming as well as dream interpritation years ago. My dreams, though often "nightmarish" are still my favorite place to be. For over 10 years now I have returned to the same places night after night watching them evolve and change with my "real life". Over the years I have become familiar with the places and somewhat even the people I meet there. It really is like living another life for me, with histories and memories and routines all their own. As for the "haging" or whatever it was, that only happened the one time. (thank the Goddess). I was yanked out of my body by someone one other time, but I was practicing astal progection and I know who he was. Other than that most nights my dreams are quite normal (well for me nightmares are quite normal). Thanks for your info about the haging. Trici

Sounds like you have a fascinating nightlife Trici. I do believe we can visit other planes when we are asleep & it sounds like you've become adept at doing just that! <img src="/images/graemlins/beamedup.gif" alt="" /> Try the black tourmaline if you want a break from the nightmares.
