Hi, I just wanted to say "Hi" to everyone. I came across this site while doing a search on Blue Headed Parrot Finches.I have a pair of them, as well as a Quaker, named "Luka", who has a vocabulary of about 20 words. He is such a character, he picks up Alot of sayings. He now calls and whistles for my dog (a Min Pin) Sydney.I also have 4 canaries, 1 Intense Male,1 Frosted Female they are paired up. A Frosted Bronze male, and an Intense Bronze Female. She is still young, and is going through her first moult. I also have 4 Bengalese Society Finches. Mom and dad,who are sitting on 5 eggs, which I hope hatch, their Due date is May 23rd. I also have their "Kids" a male and female, seperated, as they are Free breeders and I don't want brother and sister having babies.I have had "Red Factor" canaries, which I bought through a breeder. My first lived until he was 11,my second, recently died. When I had Joey, the second one,I saw a Red Factor at a local pet store. I inquired about the bird, it's age, sex, they said It was singing,so after a few days I decided to buy him. Well 2 days after bringing him home, "SHE "laid an egg. I had called the store to let them know, and they don't Guarantee the sex. This was not a problem, as I thought when she is old enough, I would breed her with my male. They were in seperate cages, I was slowly introducing them, she continued to lay a total of 4 eggs, then I found her dead the next morning?? They told me she could have been "Egg Bound". I returned her for another Red they had,and the same thing happened, she started to lay eggs. Then my male took sick,I'm not sure what it was, he was still kept seperate, then I found him dead in his cage. So I was left with a female. I came upon an ad, a canary breeder, and went to see him. I told him my experience with the females, and he told me, they have to be atleast 10 months old, before they can lay?? The pet store told me they were about six weeks!! This is where I bought my bronze male, and yellow male. Then I lost the female!! I had put the bronze male in with her, she made a nest,I kept an eye on her, in case she was egg bound,I put a few drops of vegetable oil, on her cloaca to make sure she could pass the egg( she had laid 3) So I won't be buying from this store anymore. I buy my birds from the breeder, this is where I got my finches from. I hope I didn't take up alot of space, I just wanted to warn people about My experience,
And to introduce myself and my "Feathered Family".
Thank You. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Welcome to the forum emluka. Sounds like you've got quite a selection of birds in your home.

Sorry to hear about all your problems with canaries & I hope the rest of them stay healthy & happy.

Hi and welcome, emluka. I have a canary. So, did you ever find out what happened to your canaries? That is strange that they all died like that. Some chemicals in the house or something? Pet store birds sick? Suicide?
