My first thought was e.e. cummings too...there is a new biography of him out that looks really good!

I'm reading Paul Gaugin's Tahiti journals right now and am in love with so many of the words from it. "Noa Noa" is a current favorite!

I love all the ones I never heard pronounced. You wouldn't believe how many there are and how I've pronounced them wrong over the years because I've never heard them.

reciprocity (I said re-sip-re-okity instead of res-ipros-ity
cadaver (I said Kad-a-vere instead of Ka-dar-ver)
banal (I pronounced it bay-nal instead of b-narl)
Osama (I pronounced it OZ-ma instead of O-sah-ma)

It's amazing to hear them pronounced now I have the CI and know what I've been saying wrong over the years.

Cadaver! What a great word.

I have a real hard time with names. People, places... if they aren't simple chances are I'm pronouncing it wrong. Even after someone has said it to me a few times.

I like the word "darkle." It has a feel to it that I like because of its sound and its meaning.

I have often gotten a kick out of words that my daughter often read but had never heard pronounced. I can only remember two at the moment: mild (she said MILLED) and basil (she said bahSIL).

We also like making up fun German-like words such as "googlehaggen" or "schnitzelhaggen." The "-haggen" ending is fun to say in a German accent. In fact, we all love speaking in various accents -- lots of fun.

I also like the word "Champs-lyses" -- the way the French say it.

And "spigot" is fun, too.

Words I love:

ubiquitous
ephemeral
obstreperous
nebulous
nefarious
absolutely (I absolutely say this a lot!)
detest
y'all (my family is Southern!)

There are more but I can't think of them now.

Words I Detest:
- Anything I can't spell (I can't seem to use words I can't spell. Thank goodness I am a good speller!)

- any of the permutations of feces. The slang, etc. :shudders: WHY do we have to talk about this stuff?!

'Magari' is an Italian word which means 'if only' or 'chance would be a fine thing'.

e.g. we have a beautiful old photograph in our house of a royal hunting party. People always ask, is that your family and I answer 'magari!'.

Words I like: loyal, freedom, love, friend, chandelier, brook, and I hope I am not insane; but that part in "Mrs. Robinson" where they say koo-koo-koo-choo Mrs Robinson.....that koo-koo-koo-choo gets me. It is silly and a filler - but it is cute.
