I normally don't remember my dreams. Usually they leave me like steam on a summer's day when i wake up but this dream or rather, part of a dream is haunting me. I snapped awake the other morning from a dream (not a nightmare mind) and i couldn't shake this mental picture of a man in a chinese outfit. it was red and obviously nice silk and he was just staring at me. like he was looking through me. i wanna say the silk was decorated with dragons and lotus flowers but i'm not sure. am i just looney or does this really mean something?

Welcome, Illy!

No, you're not looney! <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I believe that all dreams have some meaning, even the wacky ones that we have when we're under stress or had too much spicy food before bed.

The first thing that jumps out at me is his appearance - he has got it goin' on in that outfit! The red silk and dragons are some powerful - and lucky - feng shui!

Dragons symbolize fire and passion, and frequently guard the treasures in the cave or castle. They can also symbolize spiritual guardians. They can symbolize obstacles you must overcome before you can become your true self.

Men typically symbolize the male aspects of our own selves in dreams, so what this says to me is that you may need to let that side of yourself (the side that is competitive and aggressive) out in order to be more successful in career or business - and that great fortune is coming your way! He's staring at you - which may symbolize your male side staring you in the face.

With all their fire and passion.....dragons can also symbolize sexual drive. You don't have the hots for some little Chinese man, do ya?

Aha! And congratulations on your engagement!

I dreamed of oriental objects last night! In my dream, someone who I haven't seen in many years who collected them was very pleased to see that I owned so many (I have only a small collection in real life - involving dragons, interestingly). I also dreamed of tall candles lighting up the room. I don't remember much else, but the emotions were pleasant.

A Chinese man would represent a mental aspect of yourself reflecting an idea you have or simply a way of thinking that is actually foreign to your own nature. (as I assume you are not Chinese). This would imply a way of thinking that can put distance between you and the Inner or True Self within you. If the man in the dream was really a "little man" as in the dream title, it can suggest a way of thinking in which you belittle or demean your own mind.

Mentally you appear to have accepted a function or way of behaving that is represented by a red silky outfit. A Chinese outfit, would also imply a function or behaviour that is foreign to your own nature. The red colour would suggest there are perhaps strong instinctive feelings about this function or behaviour but it could also be regarded with anger. In western culture red also indicates the idea of danger and stop. While it is true that red does symbolize good luck for the Chinese, this would not apply if you are not Chinese (because your inherited nature was not created of a Chinese way of thinking).

Silk, because of its "silky feel" is very caressable and can suggest an idea that one feels invited to caress. Thus a garment made of silk tends to imply a function or behaviour that is loved. The dragons and lotus flowers decorating the garment can indicate specific ideas related to the function or behaviour. The dragon often simply suggests the idea of emotional power while the lotus is associated with Eastern spiritual thinking and usually seen as representing spiritual enlightenment. Again it might be worth noting that both these symbols are very important in Asian cultures and that they are being seen against a background or in a context of red.

The scene may suggest that when using your mental perspective, particularly in terms of a probably loved
function, you need to take a good hard look at yourself. (he was just staring at me) The idea of the man "looking through me" can suggest that your motives or intents are not difficult to figure out or possibly that you need to look beyond yourself and your own emotional nature (which is represented by the body you live in).
