Do you use a "to do" list? Is it working for you? Why or why not?

I use a "to do lsit" at times. It works for me.

Have you tried "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" in terms of time management?

I live by my Palm, I love it. Took a while to get used to it, but it was so easy. Especially if you are a gadget person. I have my entire schedule in there, alarms are awesome. I set them to remind me of work deadlines, personal deadlines, checking kid's home work, working out, study. bills are all tucked in there, addresses, phone numbers. and some fun stuff too <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

At the end of the day, I sometimes list on my desk calendar things I need to do tomorrow, so I am not overwhelmed. But usually, I'm pretty good at remembering

Major hot button. I like to do lists that concern appointments but I always forget to check my list. I like the fact that I can write down grocery lists on some of them but I always forget to take the list with me. I can't get the hang of this organized world we live in. Everyone is so hyper-organized, so many things to do, so little time to do them. I just can't compete so I don't try anymore.

I usually will only make a list when I'm feeling overwhelmed so that way I can write down the steps I need to take. But this year I made a to do list for the year which I always refer back to. It helps me in more ways than one. It gives me the chance to keep on track with my goals when I'm feeling complacent and when I'm feeling as though I'm getting nothing accomplished, I can look on all the things I've checked off and be proud of myself again.

If I am getting ready to go somewhere for the weekend I write a list of to do's or if we are having a big family dinner. That way I don't forget anything at all!

I'm not the best with lists, though I need them. I forget to look at them, or else I have way too much on them and get stressed out.

I set up a series of simple lists like "FlyLady" suggests - I have my absolute must do every day list, my "Do this on Monday, Do this on Tuesday, do this on Wednesday" lists, and then bigger chores on a monthly/quarterly basis. I keep these in plastic sheets in a binder in my kitchen, and make a point of starting every day there. These keep me on top of things quite well.

Then I have my goals/dreams/"don't fit anywhere else" lists that get me in a bind. I followed the "Simpleology" course (it's free!) at www.simpleology.com. It helps me keep track of all the Miscellaneous stuff without losing it, but also without it over-burdening my daily list. Cool stuff. If I'm disciplined about using it (I'm AWFUL with consistency, but I am getting better) I get about 6 times more useful stuff done in a day than when I don't use it.

Check it out - this is NOT an affiliate link or anything. Just a friendly suggestion.

I create a to-do list for everyday Mon-Fri. They help me get the tasks done that need to be done. Otherwise I seem to wander around as if I have nothing to do.
Now time management is a completely different issue for me. I work from home, so needless to say it's easy to slack off. I want to fit in my work as well as all those other things I want to (read blogs, check forums etc). Just today I got a couple of books from the library that I hope will help. I usually do so well the first 2 or 3 days of a new schedule and then I am back to my old ways.
