We're living in times where Men and Women can run to the nearest clergy, get a quickie marriage, go grab a bite to eat, and then on to the nearest divorce court, or better yet, get a free trip to "Divorce Court" the t.v. show, and hey if they happened to consemate the big joke and became pregnant they could be on the safe side and call Maury Povich to do the DNA testing. Because they CAN! OK, well you get my drift. I'm a lesbian mother and have been with my wife (thats what she is) for 7 years, we have two beautiful children. We are members of HRC, Human Rights Campaign, please visit our webpage > http://www.hrcactioncenter.org/actioncenter/advocacy/segan72-218504
or go to www.hrc.org, on the upper right hand portion of the page is a link to sign up for a "meetup" this is happening all over the U.S.
We're not second class citizens, this has nothing to do with infringing on any religious views, were certainly not all Liberals. This is about civil rights. You should question a government that wants to Amend the Constitution to DENY a group of people, and to do it in a way that also DENIES you the right to vote, state by state

You are being denied NOTHING. Heterosexuals are just as prohibited from marrying someone of the same sex as homosexuals are. And gays are just as entitled under the law to marry someone of the opposite sex as heterosexuals are. This issue is about what someone WANTS not about rights. Gays have been denied nothing but their DESIRES on this issue.

Dave -

In my state (illinois) we were denied many things because we are gay/homosexual. My state legislature realized this, and thus passed SB 3186. This law states that ALL people are equal under the law and discrimination based on age, sex, gender, disability, religion, sexual orientation, perceived sexual orientation, etc.

If we were so equal.. then why did we need a law that clarified how we have to be considered equal. Obviously we were not equal, and had problems being denied housing, jobs, credit, and had problems with people committing crimes against us just for the fact that we either were or perceived to be gay.

Your argument that homosexuals are entitled under the law to marry a person of the opposite sex as other heterosexuals are is an oxymoron. Come on... if a person is a homosexual, they wouldn't be attempting or wanting to marry a person of the opposite sex. So using that argument is ignorant. IMHO.

Homosexual persons just want the equal and fair chance to marry the person they love and want to share a life with just as any other heterosexual person. Heterosexual people forget that the gov't doesn't have to allow marriage at all. They dont have to extend liberties and rights associated with marriage if they didn't want to. What heterosexuals see as a right is actually a priveledge we gay people would like to have as well.

The real answer is to take the religious side of the marriage out of the civil side. Have two ceremonies like many European countries do. They have a civil ceremony with a magistrate and then have the big wedding in their place of worship with their relgious figure and their family seperate from the wedding the state recognizes. This way you can still keep the private religous ceremony and it won't infringe on any population and all are treated equally under the civil ceremony.
