Hi! I've recently decided to go back on my low carb diet and I'm trying to look at things I may have done wrong the first time around. (Besides the obvious breaking of my diet) I used to drink a lot of Diet Coke and tea and coffee with sweet 'n low.
Recently I heard that sweet n' low, aside from not being good for you, also raised your blood sugar levels just like sugars do and so therefore make it harder to lose weight. Does anyone have any information about this? Are there other alternatives I can look into for a little sweetness? I've bought and tried Splenda but I have to use so much of it to sweeten my drinks.

I'm really excited about my new eating plan, and am very determined to make it work this time.

I was so excited to find this forum. I think it'll be a lot easier to stick with it when I can discuss it with other people and get different perspectives and ideas to keep eating yummy and healthy.

My philosophy on life: Work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like nobody's watching.

O-ho-ho if you want to get me started on a topic, get me going on saccharine. That is what sweet-n-low is. I wrote a big article on it -

The short version is this stuff is BAD. It was banned in 1911, and they've been trying to ban it since 1970 but the big marketing effort made by the people who use it has kept it from being banned so far. It is PROVEN to be tied to bladder cancer.

Secondly, cola products have been proven to harm bone density in women -

So I *highly* recommend staying away from all colas and staying away from all saccharine products. There are many great sodas out there that use Splenda, but in general I would just try to wean yourself off of soda. Soda is about empty calories, chemicals and colors going into your system. You really need water, you don't need those artificial chemicals

In the meantime though at least drink non-cola sodas and ones not sweetened with Saccharine
