The Sunday issue of Parade had this information:

"Americans spent $24 billion last year on candy and ate 3 billion pounds of chocolate. In fact, we consumed nearly as much sugar (64 pounds per person) as poultry (68 pounds)."

That is just scary!! Remember back in the early parts of last century when politicians promised "a chicken in every pot" as a good thing, because people were malnourished trying to survive on potatoes and bread? Fast forward to modern times where we have enough money to buy chicken - and instead we buy pounds of sugar!!

It's no wonder we are an obese nation, considering the huge volumes of candy and sugar we ingest. If low carb dieting does nothing else, it encourages us to cut all that sugar out of our diets! Even if that was the only thing we changed, I bet for 99% of the US population that would result in weight loss ...
