Most people write me and say they are saving lots of money on low carb - because they are no longer buying soda, processed foods, pizza, brand name items. They're buying fresh veggies, multi grain items and the meats stay the same. I'm curious about hearing from more people - how did your bill change, if at all, when you switched over to a low carb diet?

I know we are saving a good amount of money by going low carb. We used to order pizzas out a lot, get a ton of soda, buy tons of processed foods. We would eat meat anyway so that didn't change.

Now that we're on low carb, we drink water and tea instead of soda, we don't order pizzas in weekly. Our shopping cart isn't full of all the expensive brand name products. The meats are still there, and there are more fresh vegetables than we used to eat. If you buy veggies in season they can be really inexpensive, or bulk buy frozen veggies.

We always take vitamins no matter what types of food we eat.

So for us this is a sure winner <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I polled a number of other hosts to find out what average ranges for a 2 person household were, for weekly shopping for groceries. I got:

$50 (tuna fish, P&J, soup)
$60
$100
$150

I am currently in a 2 person household so that will be my first situation to explore for a full week menu. Normally my boyfriend stops at the supermarket on the way home and picks up whatever is fresh and on sale, plus we get once a week

* Bag of lettuce (salad base)
* 2-3 roma tomatoes
* 2 celery
* 2 zucchini

We buy chicken wings in bulk and ground beef in bulk and keep cans of chicken broth, tomato paste and oils in stock. Between those items we can whip up something easy pretty much any night.

Please post with your weekly grocery bill so I have a good ballpark to work with <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
