I don't think depression is the mindset that helps (most) people be creative. I do, however, think it is a circumstance that allows people who are creative to vent and gives them issues and topics to work with right in front of their face.

The mindset that helps me, personally, be the most creative is a sense of peace and calm, when I am most vulnerable and open to new ideas like right after a long vacation.

Yes. I had not been working with clay for very long when I had a car wreck. I wasn't seriously injured but I was very traumatized. My Flora goddesses were born in the weeks following the wreck and continue to evolve.

I used to do most of my writing when I was depressed. Now I have tons of ideas but can't seem to zero in on one and go with it.

Creativity is a world in which I thrive. Without it, the reality of the negative collective conscience infiltrates my being and I shrink, and become infected by fear. <img src="/images/graemlins/rolling.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/fish.gif" alt="" />

how I best maintain my creative pattern is to flood my being with nature. As well, when I hear the gloom and doom of news programs, I create something beautiful to counteract all the misery because I know that the way to make the world a nicer place starts inside our own mind and heart.
