How close to your period can you get before you can get pregnany?

Me and my husband had sexy once on the 8th of April an had a small accident, then on April 13 we had a large accident.

My first of my last period was march 20 and I have 28 day cycle. Is there a big chance that I could still get pregnant this close to my next period?

Ovulation occurs 14 days before the start of you mensus. The oocyte (egg) lives about 12-24 hours and sperm must be present in the fallopian tube near the ovary at that time for conception to happen. This mean that ejaculation near the cervix must happen about 1-2 days before ovulation. There are rare times that a woman may ovulate twice in one cycle.

You generally ovulate 9-10 days after your period starts. You only have 24-36 hours in which to get pregnant. I highly recommend an ovulation predictor. I used one when I was trying to get pregnant and it worked first time. Good luck!

Hi all, new member here <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />.

I assumed you could pregnant anytime, anyday etc, not just a week or so after your period?. Am I wrong in thinking this?

ovulation usually occurs 14 days before your period starts. so think about how long your cycles are. if they're 28 days, then ovulation is probably happening around day 14. if you're trying to get pregnant, start having intercourse before then. most dr's recommend to start having intercourse every other day from days 9-18 or something to that effect if you have regular cycles.

your body will give you signs of fertility. you mucous (cervical mucous) will be the consistency of egg-whites. you might have some ovulation pain. you might have a little bloating. if you use an ovulation predictor kit, you'll get a positive test right 18-36 hours before ovulation.

The folks who said that ovulation happens about 14 days before your period starts are correct! I used to work a sex ed hotline and this was our #1 question.

When you get stressed out and your period is late, it's not late on days from ovulation to period, it gets longer on days before you ovulate, which is why stating ovulation as days after your period stops is inaccurate.

Essentially, if you don't want to get pregnant, you should take the time to learn about how your body works, learn about birth control, pick a form that works for you and your lifestyle and then use it.

[color:"orange"] If your period isn't quite 28 days like mine or your cycle is longer like mine, ovulation would or could be around day 21 of your cycle. (Although I don't ovulate every month!) [/color]
